Saiga muzzle brakes?

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys:

Does anyone make muzzle brakes specifically for Saiga .223 rifles with 16" barrels? Or can you use an AK-47 brake?

It simply occurred to me I don't have a muzzle brake on my Saiga and I should probably get one to make it a bit more accurate (even though I'm happy with it so far).

All appropriate styles I've seen are for AK-47s.

Thanks!

Muzzle devices do one of two things. Either reduce muzzle flash, or muzzle rise. Either a brake or a FH will not have much of an effect on accuracy. Your rifle is already more accurate than you are. Most accuracy issues are with ammo, trigger and the shooter.

There are more 5.56 flash hiders. The AK74 brake works well though.

Good point.

Done both; prefer 1st one for variety of available devices.

You can replace Saiga FSB with aftermarket or surplus AK-74 FSB. Check 5.45 forum for details and instructions and watch your 922r count if foreign parts used.

Add-on: There is 120 micron or ~ 5 mil difference difference in caliber, obviously. While some people disregard it as "close enough", I know few purists who "opened up" the AK-74 muzzle break to 5.56 specs.

Also, taking the variations in barrel OD into consideration, make sure to find a match of your barrel outside diameter to prospective FSB, either surplus or aftermarket.

Or you can thread you barrel into 1/2-28 AR thread and enjoy the galaxy of AR/M muzzle brakes, flash hiders and (with proper paperwork and fees paid) suppressors. See "Barrel Threading" related threads and posts on this forum.

Have fun!
