ISO: OEM S-12 gas block

Recommended Posts

Did a port job on the gun today and jacked up the gas block while trying to put it back on. Have called around the country and NOBODY has one. I'm hoping to find someone on here who is either parting out a gun or has one lying around after upgrading to an aftermarket gas block. PM or email me aggieemt at Hotmail dot com.

Thanks in advance...

You're the second guy this week that needs gas block repair. My first bit of advice is to send it off to one of our many forum vendors and see if they can fix it for you (Cobras Customs and Tromix come to mind).

Depending on the damage your local machine shop (open the phone book and find a couple) might be able to set you up as well.

Since this has come up twice in a week I wouldn't mind having a destroyed gas block to take some data from and create a mechanical drawing so anyone can get one made anywhere. I'm not going to pound mine off of my gun just to create a drawing.

I was able to salvage the gas block (for now) and put the gun back together so it functions. Still looking to find one, but it's not as critical now.

Utah: I used an air hammer to get it off, drilled the ports, and used the air hammer to put it back on. When I put the air hammer on it, I inadvertently put it on the side that has the hole for the gas puc spring/detent, and it collapsed/deformed the hole into the threads for the gas puc. I was able to drill the detent hole to remove the burrs, and had to use a dremel to remove the burrs on the threads for the gas puc. That flattened out the threads and resulted in the inability to screw the puc in more than about 2 rounds.

Meanwhile, I managed to get it in and re assembled to the point that it functions, I just can't rotate/adjust the gas puc.

Maxwell: I'll keep looking for one, and if I find one I'll send mine to you to do exactly that.

Paul and I were discussing the need for these just a few weeks ago.  I've seen his prints and he has gotten a quote to have them water jet cut.

Drop Paul an email or call him.  Just to give him a little nudge.  Tell him John told you to call.  www.  iCCmfg.  com

Without seeing it, but listening to his explanation. He moved material into the detention hole and the threaded portion of the gas block. He stated he has already fixed the detent hole, so assuming he didn't further bugger it up by cross threading the plug. He simply need to chase the plug threads with proper tap. 50$ tap I'm guessing tho. I still have interest in the availability of a standard gas block as I wanted a 040 but had to settle on a 030 to get the magwell, lrbho, and "special" top cover. But I don't even have the gun yet, so maybe it will grow on me?!

FWIW, always have the plug/bolt in the hole. A soft buffer material like brass or aluminum is a good thing and just because your compressor can put out 120psi doesn't mean you shouldn't regulate it down if you're using this method. Hindsight is 20/20.
