goldenpony 61
I have a TAC-47 Auto Plug and I am having no problems with it. I just wondered, do these need to be taken apart and cleaned periodically?
corbin 621
I've been running one almost since they came out, and once set, I haven't had a single issue either. I've only taken it apart once to see if it needed to be cleaned. It really didn't look like it, but I did anyway. So, I'd say..... it couldn't hurt, but I find its internals are not prone to getting as dirty as the rest of the gas system.
YOT 3,743
It really isn't anything more than a pressure relief valve. a good spraying with gunscrubber on each side of the plunger is about all that is needed.
poolingmyignorance 2,191
If you do take it apart, bear in mind to count your turns so you can set it back right.
goldenpony 61
If you do take it apart, bear in mind to count your turns so you can set it back right. Yea, I thought about that too.
gunfun 3,931
I agree with the above. how long have you been using it? ... dial back in after initial spring break in.
goldenpony 61
Actually, I have probably fired less than 100 rounds with the Auto Plug. As I said, I'm not having any issues, but I'm a believer in maintaining.
gunfun 3,931
Theoretically scale could eventually build up. Its coated with nitrile or something like that, but it could rust too. I got a little rust on the threads on one of mine, so I like to oil it up every now and then. Just put it in a baggie with a bunch of CLP and let it soak, then spray it out until the spray looks clean. This is a prime example of a where an ultrasonic cleaner would be great. Nephilim7 107
Also, do NOT use carburetor cleaner. It will ruin the finish and cause it to fade. Brake cleaner seems to be fine, though. Edited March 29, 2014 by Nephilim7
kwesi 39
I called Tac-47 today to ask this exact question. I was asked which ammo I was using. I explained mostly Federal bulk and Rio (7 1/2 shot). Patrick said to take it apart when firing Rio every 500-600 rounds and for Federal 7-800. I had about 650 rounds so I took it apart. But before doing so I took my calipers and measured the depth of the screw and noted how it was pointing when it was fully seated. It was pretty dirty.
gunfun 3,931
I use ho-made brand ammo. I believe the service interval for that is once every 5 years.
