Unfortunately, I don't yet have a 5.45, but this e-mail from Classic pissed me off.  Like I'm sure many are...  I'm fuckin tired of the panic bull shit.

Let the panic buying begin.

Till proven ABSOLUTELY wrong I will consider this another scam to drive up demand for 5.45x39 ammo. It did what was intended, I.E. it started a panic amongst the plebes and drove demand way out of pro

I've got 4 spam cans that I'll sell for $2500.00 each if anybodies interested. smile.png

If you accept Zimbabwe bank notes, you have a deal - I'll send you a billion, and you can keep the change.

Did you know that 2 or more sami-auto rifles in 5 days over 22 cal with detachable magazine must be reported to the ATF..

Now you all know 5.45 is like 21.5xxx and does not fit into the specs...

Why do you all think they are/may be trying to keep it out of the US??

I asked the IOI during my license interview and I said how bout an AK74.. he said yup to report it..

I said 'no..' his look was priceless.. he said why not.. I said its not 22 cal..

The form date is 2011.. guessing after Holder screwed the pooch..

Sounds like utter and complete BS to me. Right now the market is swimming in 5.45x39. This after the supposed demise of the caliber and so called "impending stricter import regulations" caused the price spiking and panic buying a few months back.

Not the first time this rumor has floated around the internets....

Over on AK files someone posted a couple phone conversations with one of the ATF Imports people, and they are saying all future imports have been halted. Due to the ammo now being classified as pistol ammo.

I pulled up the number shown and it comes back as the correct one.. The number of people confirming this has me on edge.

I figure there is a chance this is all crap.. Hell I hope it is.

It is. It is under .22 caliber and the green tip is exempt because of this same statute. It is a blended metal bullet with both lead and mild steel core. This shit resurfaces all the time. People create fucked up shit like this to make a quick buck. The importation of this awesome bullet is usually by regular goes who import a few pallets directly from an overseas distributor. Even if Colt decided to make a production 5.45 pistol, the surplus ammunition would still be flowing in because it's under .22 caliber and is not an all steel core.

People start rumors and if you don't watch your shit, you have panic buys. It would be in the best interest of some scum bag, somewhere, to create a big fucking lie and drive the price and demands of their goods sky high.

You have it dead to rights. Under .22 = exempt

I'm a lot more worried that some asshat will decide to produce some PSL pistols and screw the pooch for us on 54R.

(cool.png The term "armor piercing
ammunition" means—
(i) a projectile or projectile core
which may be used in a handgun
and which is constructed entirely
(excluding the presence of traces
of other substances) from one or a
combination of tungsten alloys,
steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium
copper, or depleted uranium; or
(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger
than .22 caliber designed and
intended for use in a handgun and
whose jacket has a weight of more
than 25 percent of the total weight
of the projectile.

However its loose enough that it can be used to screw us.

The .22 and under is part of section II which is jacketed ammo.

Who is this "mysterious" entity that has been approved for manufacturing said pistol? Albeit for different reasons, didn't we all pretty much suspect this was coming?

Just "some guy," who could very well just be someone at the ATF themselves.

Yep. Complete ATF rule change, over one pistol.

Just ordered a case from Rguns. $235 out the door (.22 per round).

(As I type, I just heard that Piers Morgan Show was cancelled, due to poor ratings. Happy dance! What a fucking idiot.)

this is why I just completely avoided the caliber. I suspected something like this would happen sooner than later, or simply run out.  I also never had enough free money to stockpile 40K rounds, and no interest in paying commercial prices for an otherwise obscure caliber.

I have a couple AK-74 kits I bought several years back. I finally have receivers coming this week. Neither one will be built in 5.45 - one in 5.56, and the other either 5.56 or 7.62 (I'll figure out how to mod it to work)

So, when do we raid ATF, disarm them and give them all a citizens arrest?

A thought. The pistol itself is illegal.
ATF has taken assembling parts to be manufacturing.
And inserting a magazine to be assembling.
Thus placing 7N6 ammo into a pistol is manufacturing AP ammo.

By manufacturing the pistol they manufactured AP ammo which is illegal. Thus the pistol is illegal to have made in the first place.

ATF could simply send out a letter making 5.45x39 pistols illegal to transfer or possess as any one of them is manufacturing AP pistol ammo.

Its a little stupid but it effects far fewer people this way.

Don't avoid the caliber! Hell, I LOVE my AK74! I would take it over a 47 any day of the week. It's more accurate at range, recoil is almost nothing, the ballistic properties of the bullet tends to fuck living things up very badly, all admirable qualities in ANY combat rifle. Plus with the Bulgarian wood on mine I wouldn't hesitate to butt-stroke the hell out of someone if needed.

All in all it's still one of the cheapest calibers to shoot, I can burn through hundreds of rounds of this stuff and not worry. I refuse to shoot more than 75 rounds of .308 on ANY trip to the range these days. This ban shit has been running around on the web since I first got into AK's. IF we can't get it from the Russians we will still get it from our solid NATO allies like Bulgaria.

I ain't worried a bit about this rumor...

I think it doesn't effect all 5.45x39 ammo. Just foreign steel core ammo.

Yeah its just the 7N6 which is pretty much the best ammo for 5.45X39, you'll still have the wolf and Tula stuff... Which are about as accurate as their 7.62x39, but not with the same ballistics.

And yes there is little worry about the $260+ a 1000 ammo, just the stuff in a tin for $160 per 1000

Found this on Reddit:

"People have been making AR-15 pistols using 5.45, showing them off on the internet, and the ATF decided not to allow it to be imported any longer due to it being "armor piercing". The NRA is expected to appeal, but who knows."

According to him, the importers are saying no import requests (some form that has to be approved by the Feds) from the past 6 months are being approved, and they don't expect them to be in the future.

This just means commercial production will step up, the caliber is not disappearing. Besides what did we all think would inevitably happen, eventually for our sake american companies will see the market and begin to produce ammo, mags, and dare I say it a decent american made ak clone? one can hope as there are millions of rifles out there in 7.62x39 and 5.45 already that are going to run for a long time, chewing up lots of ammo which means dollars to someone.

We knew these days would come, have been warning for years these things would begin, the smart among us are ready the others well...

What kills me are the cries that this is illegal, that the ATF cant do it.

Since when has the BATFE, or indeed the entire government, been bound by mere legalities?

And it aint over.

http://www.ak47.net/forums/t_4_54/154593_Just_got_this_email_from_Sen__Coats___.html

"I got an email for Sen. Coats babbliing about trying to strengthen sactions against Russia for the Ukraine incident where he talks about going after Russian arms export firm. Here's a quick excerpt ........

..........Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and I tried to toughen up the sanctions portion of the recently-passed Ukraine Aid Act by offering an amendment that targeted Russia's arms dealer, Rosoboronexport. This state agency, established by Putin, is entitled to export the entire range of Russian armaments officially available for export. It has supplied arms to the Assad regime in Syria, enabling mass atrocities. Obstructing this agency's work and the income it provides the Russian state would be among the most effective ways to demonstrate our condemnation of Russian actions by force of arms. Sen. Cornyn and I included much of the substance of our amendment in a letter to President Obama, calling on him to immediately terminate the federal government's business ties with Rosoboronexport.......

Not sure where this is going to go or if it applies to the civillian side of things but it distinctly sounds like trouble brewing for Rosoboronexport concerning shipping of arms and ammo. Just a head's up."

All i can think is... im pretty sure a lot of us are really interested in knowing who made a 5.45x39 pistol... they deserve an ass whoopin. This also might motivate people to petition the atf to change their ruling on the whole AP pistol ammo bullshit. (I know right heres to hoping)

Edited to appease beefcake--but im not going to go back and add apostrophes and capitalize sentences. :P
