Sim_Player 1,939
My wife and I were on the way to Costco yesterday when a lady pulled in front of us driving erratic. At the first traffic light she stopped short 2 car lengths. At the next light she didn't stop until her car was in the intersection. I told my wife to call 911. Within seconds the lady just misses a guard rail. 911 takes the vehicle description and alerts troopers. Ten minutes have elapsed. The lady turns off the main road and we follow from a safe distance and call back and update 911. She drives over a sidewalk just before passing in front of a middle school that just let out. Finally she pulls into a store parking lot and gets hung up on a curb. We call again and update her location. At one point 911 asked if we are deliberating following her and then tells us that we shouldn't. We ignore their advise. This lady is going to kill someone. It took 30 minutes for law enforcement to arrive. The police department is next door. Tell me, again, why I shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun. yakdung 2,926
Video? If so, I would have uploaded it to a station and then watched the local PD do the sing and dance routine.
magsite20 1,664
One of the problems with any response time is it can be someone’s life time too long. I live out in the sticks down a dirt road I’m figuring 15 minutes at best for someone to get there so if I’m having an issue yeah I’m calling 911 but I may have take a few extra steps too. If I have a problem with someone I won't go out to get them, but they sure as hell need to stay out of the house and not be shooting or doing anything that would endanger anyone. thebuns1 4,323
Hell last week I set the alarm off at work by accident and had to wait over 30 minutes for them to arrive. Had that been an actual B&E, they would have made off with whatever they wanted. When he did arrive he was on his phone for about two minutes before he asked me if everything was alright. It was just another reminder that its better to take responsibility for my own safety and well being rather than to place it in someone else's hands. Especially when they could give a fuck less. poolingmyignorance 2,191
My mother in law was living in an apartment complex, when somebody unlocked her door in the night and came in with a woman. (it would seem the maintenance guy had a mistress and was using her apt. As a rendezvous, since the M.I.L was often staying with relatives.) She screamed and they left, after attempting some bullshit explanation, and protest. She called the cops and then me. I lived forty minutes away, and waited two hours before the police showed up. Then they claimed it was a civil matter since they had a key. Of course when she changed the locks the threatened to evict her when their key no longer worked... Amazing the balls of some people. poolingmyignorance 2,191
On another occasion some shit head teenager was shooting a pellet rifle from a jungle gym in a back yard at people walking down the bayou near my house. When I called the cops and gave them the address where he was at they told me, they wouldn't respond unless someone was hurt.
Arik 565
What does the police station have to do with the proximity? Just cause there is a police station doesnt mean shit. In my city the best you'll get before 4pm is a secritary and after 4 you have to use a speciall phone to get someone to come over. Its a building. There is no one in it but a secritary. Cops are driving around, not sitting in the station
semper299 284
Our average response time is about 4 minutes. Well, unless the "Hot and Fresh" sign is illuminated on the Krispy Kreme, then you people are on your own Edited April 15, 2014 by Semper299
magsite20 1,664
you're saying 4 and I generally believe the response time is 2, 2, and 2. too damn slow too damn late to help
XXXSilverXXX 11
I have always found it so funny, I have set off my house alarm a couple different times and even set off the panic on the house and each time it's about 20-45 minutes for daytona beach to show up usually I get daytona beach shores in 10, so I guess I am partly lucky. HB of CJ 1,263
Out here in SW Oregon in Josephine County we have just one, (1) Sheriffs patrol deputy for a service area of around 60,000. One. Our small mountain valley town has one,(1) contract Sheriffs deputy on duty here about 28 hrs a week out of 40. What this means is that we have no law enforcement to speak of. Now people are calling the local volunteer fire department for law enforcement needs just to have the approaching sirens distract any bad individuals set on some sort of crime. Not good at all. No viable long term solutions either. Voters tax levies for law enforcement constantly fail. So do all county tax hike requests. We pretty much have natural law. Our Sheriff is a White Hat, which helps. HB of CJ (old coot) Practically everybody out here carries, owns or has access to firearms, legally or not. Actually I have had no problems yet and do not expect any and everybody is very courteous to each other. I can understand why. Kinda like the wild wild West.
pjj342 632
I live in a small town with about five officers, probably more per capita than most other places, id imagine. Theres always one on duty and can be no more than 5mi away, and unless he is already taking care of something more important, he'll be here in a few minutes. Cool, whatever. My home is secure and protected. If a bad guy gets the jump on me, its my own damn fault for not being prepared. Also, im not the guy who wishes all law breakers to be kidnapped and imprisoned, since most laws are antiquated or profit driven anyways. The real offenders who actually deserve to go to jail (in my mind anyways), also deserve to be dealt a more swift justice. There is no excuse for victimizing others violently or sexually. Those who choose to commit heinous acts, lack morals and self control, fuck em, hang em high, good riddance, no cops needed, and especially not to punish those who deal the much deserved justice. The typical american seems to think some dude with a badge can save them from anything and lives their lives accordingly. Our police state does the same thing as our welfare state, it creates a dependent class that is ever growing, ever influencing society for the ones who dont want it. Most people just want to be left alone, but ALSO want non corruptible, 'wont come after me' backup when they need it. It cant be had both ways. Ill vote for any politician who guarantees a 100yr response time. (rant off)
dayofruin 425
I don't bother the local police with such things. They're too busy sitting in parking lots clocking people or writing up seatbelt violations to worry about the petty needs of citizens. I'd rather handle things on my own. My girlfriend has had to call them a couple of times while I was at work, but they were there within 10 minutes or so. It's my view that the police will usually get there in time to file a report on something that's already happened, but not in time to stop a crime.

One buddy lives 45 minutes away. The other was Nailbomb who lives 26 minutes away, and he stopped to pick up 2 other friends on the way. TO BOOT....... I even told them it was a domestic dispute and there was firearms involved.

DogMan 2,343
I notice that in many 911 calls the dispatcher often finds some way to chastise the caller for doing something "wrong". Yeah, shame on you for deliberately following someone so you can give them current updated information on this person who may be about to kill someone. How dare you. Lone Eagle 839
We only have 7 deputies per shift(one is Shift Supervisor), One Senior Deputy, one Chief Deputy, and the Co Sheriff for 2600 square miles. Typical response time to our area is 25 minutes to whenever depending on the workload. 911 goes something like this....... 911: "911, what's the emergency?" Caller: "I have an intruder in my house/property." 911: "Address?" Caller: <gives addy/landmarks> 911: "Do you have access to a firearm?" Caller: "Yes." 911: "Do what you have to do." BOOM!!!! BOOM!!!! BOOM!!!! 911: "Is the suspect down?" Caller: "Yes," 911: "OK, dispatching medical as well. Whatever you do, don't move the body. Have a nice evening."
