OT: "Shops Permit" to build motorcycles?

I know this is OT, but with the machining expertise on this website, I thought one of you might be able to answer this question.  Are there any special permits needed to open a shop to manufacture and sell motorcycles? I know it might be different in different states, but I am talking about more than normal zoning, paint spray booth permits, franchise privilege (sales tax) and similar stuff.  Anyone know anything about a "shops license" needed to manufacture motorcycles?

Might just default to Federal regulations regarding custom car making and stuff. With cars, I think you can make 200 before Federal licensing crash worthy stuff and taxing things take place. With guns it may be 50. For bikes I do not know. Might be the same as cars. I do not know what specific requirements may be necessary in your State. HB of CJ (old coot)

I would definitely look into this with AZ. Every state varies so much.

I would assume that Arizona would be very friendly towards this idea. Talk or email your secretary of state and ask them if any special permits would be needed. Another good source of information would be your local DMV.

 

You probably wont need any special permits unless you make a few hundred a year. You can also order nice plates to rivet into your frame and give them a number for identification purposes.
