tbryanh 11
It appears the Type 1 sights are the same or similar to the Saiga sights, but the Type 2 sights are different and have a shorter radius. It appears the Type 1 sights are more desireable [?] but come on rifles with the less desireable non-square-backed receiver. The Type 2 sights appear to be less desireable but come on rifles with the more desireable square-backed receiver, Can the Type 1 sights be put on the rifle with the square-backed reciever? Are they identical to the Saiga sights and easy to find? Edited April 24, 2014 by tbryanh
tbryanh 11
It appears the barrel might be too thick to fit standard AK sights, but the RPK series of parts might fit. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/81721-diameters-of-the-front-sight-and-gas-chamber/&do=findComment&comment=820974
tbryanh 11
Centerfire Systems says "The 01 versions feature the standard RPK rear sights. The 02 versions feature the flip rear sights that are set at 100 meters or 300 meters and the front sight is integrated to the gas block. These features allow for faster target acquisition, reduced weight and results in the most balanced Vepr rifle ever produced to date."
tbryanh 11
When the front sight is integrated to the gas block rather than being mounted near the muzzle, is the rifle more accurate? It might be possible that the barrel whips more when the front sight is located near the muzzle than when it is located near the gas block.Locating the front sight near the gas block reduces the radius of the sights. This makes the sights less accurate which tends to make the rifle less accurate. But if barrel whip is reduced in the process, maybe the rifle overall is more accurate.
