mikego_34 1
I converted my saiga 12 today and when I was installing the internal receiver block (the one that has the screw holes on the sides, 2 on each side for a total of 4 screw holes) I couldn't get the supplied screws to clear the old axis pin holes that are on the side of the receiver. Everything aligns right but the supplied screw diameter is to large for the axis pin holes. What drill bit would you all use to open up the old axis pin holes? I tried using 3/16 but that seems like to much so I tried 5/32 and that was to small, didn't have anything between that in my tools set. Any ideas?
pedal2alloy 206
If you are saying that 5/32 is too small for the screw to fit thru, then going up 1/32 to 3/16 sounds fine. But you may be saying that the screw doesn't fit because the hole is off center. If that's the case, you may want to dremmel the hole to move it over.
mikego_34 1
sorry bout the lack of clarity, basically the 3/32 drill bit doesn't remove any material from the old axis pin holes that's what I meant by being to small. The 3/16 drill bit seems like it will make the hole to big meaning it will remove to much material. I don't have any problem with interference as the screw holes in the internal receiver block match up perfectly with the old axis pin holes.
MLM0358 107
The "axis pin holes" are actually different -- those are for trigger group. We know what you mean though. The screws are 8-32 in the sides of the receiver block. This requires a 0.166" diameter hole for clearance (11/64 is closest size if all you have are fractional drills). 3/16 is 0.187" This is a bit oversized.though could be used. mikego_34 1
Thanks for the correction Malcolm, another mistake on my part. Never remember which pins are called what. That's great thanks for the info on those drill bit sizes.
mikego_34 1
Do you all recommend that I drill & tap the sides of the receiver where the old trigger pin holes were, so these screws have more threading to secure to?
7808 2
Don't thread them, you want it to clamp that metal not thread into it My holes were pretty far off in my gun from the internal reciever block lining up, I had to oblong the holes in my receiver whichni wasent too happy about
