Vented Gas Tube?

Here are some of the possible pros and cons of a vented gas tube:

Pros
Runs cooler
Keeps mag well area cleaner

Cons
Debri can jam tube (sand, dirt, mud, etc.)
Can burn operator's hands

 

What other pros and cons might there be?

 

Which do you use (vented or non-vented)? Why?

Vented tubes are pointless with the current 90 degree blocks, as they are ported. The older slant GB's usually are seen with vented tubes. Its main function IMO is to keep carbon build up to a minimum. I don't see any other reason for it.

Well many of the Saigas don't have the ported GB, in which case you should either drill the GB to match a military one, or use a vented tube.

 

The vents are there to allow excess carbon to exit the gas system immediately, reducing fouling of gas system & receiver. The operating pulse of the gas system occurs within the gas block, and once the piston clears the block, every bit of gas blowby is simply excess. 

 

Probably would also help in the event the rifle was submerged in water, allowing water to quickly drain out of that end of the gas system.

 

Burn hands?? If your hands are on the gas tube, they're probably already getting burned.

 

Debris in the gas system will be blown out back through the receiver.. There is a ton of clearance/slack in the AK gas system.

just try not to have the structure reduced with the tube considering it may be vented
