7.62x39 vs. 5.45x39 Accuracy

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this is a topic that has been discussed more than once, so I apologize, but I couldn't find anything in search for whatever reason.

Anyhow, I'm thinking of getting a Saiga (possibly a Vepr) 5.45, I already have a 7.62)  I've see on alot of other forums where people say that 5.45 is considerably more accurate than 7.62, but from the YouTube videos that I've seen, I honestly don't see where that is the case.

Most of the 100 yd. groups I've seen shot with a 5.45 I can probably match with my 7.62. I know things like type of ammo, the shooter, etc. are deciding factors, but....  I hate to say it, but I really haven't been all that impressed with what I've seen of the 5.45 accuracy-wise.

Can someone here that owns both give a comparison?

Thanks in advance.

I don't own both, but my cousin has 7.62 and I'm a 5.45 user and most certainly shoot more accurately. Stationary clays, and Easter egg shells with my 5.45 all day long... but I'm sure with proper trigger time that would be easy with either. One thing you will notice the more linear ballistics is in the 300 meter range.

Same reason .223 is more inherently accurate than x39.  Sports car performance compared to big engine 4x4. It's apples to oranges. Get one in it's element and it will be superior. Get either out of their element and they perform poorly.

I've seen videos of MAC shoot a 1-3/4" group with a cold barrel SAM7 using Wolf ammo. 5.45 has a better BC, and should have an edge vs. 7.62. There's nothing really to compare. As stated, apples to oranges.
