Worth trading for?

Found a local guy that is willing to trade surplus 5.45 even for 7.62 commercial. Is the 5.45 worth trading for? Is the steel core really what make the 5.45 worth it?

I say keep 7.62. More people shooting it equals more options to trade for. And they banned a specific 5.45. It's marked 7N something or other. There's still 5.45 coming in

Depends on how much you're willing to part with vs how much you can get in return. If you have both, then it may be fair. What kind of 7.62 you putting up?

Is the 545 sealed cans? Just depends on how bad you want the 545, and how much 7.62 you have.

Yes it's sealed, but I wasn't sure if the surplus steel core will be something that is highly sought after for penetrating power. Not looking to get it and flip it, but more for shit hit the fan. I know all riflenloads penetrate most body armor, but if the surplus penetrates hard targets or cover it might be worth having. You can read a ton stuff on ammo, but I pay more attention to the members of this forum more than the internet.

If you are sufficiently stocked in 7.62, Liberty I would say go for it. The Tula is crap for long term storage, unless specifically packaged in vacuum packs. The sealed 7N6 will last decades. I just wouldn't trade a ton of 7.62 for it if you have a great deal more rifles in that caliber. As far as the penetrating power, unfortunately I can't comment. I have intentionally stayed of the 5.45 bandwagon for fear of the surplus running out, even though I drool over the AK 74's I see on the forum.
