Wife fried the engine in the van.....I have no extra cash and must sell somethings that I really don't want to......

 

Debating another vehicle or a new Jasper for this van

 

Listing the items in this post to see if my prices seem reasonable before placing in "for sale" section here

 

All firearms are mint condition and operating perfectly (as are the mags)

 

Ammo is based off ($200 per thousand= .20 per round)

On the firearms and ammo, your prices are fine - in my opinion, you're pretty high on some of the magazines. Surplus 30-rounders usually go for $10-12 each, not $25. The 40-rounders are available right now for about $25 each. The rear-loading drum is about full retail - depending where it's made. To the best of my knowledge they have never been made in Russia - the Russian drums are top loaders. If yours is an original Chinese it's worth a little more than you're asking, if it's a current-import Korean, it's worth about $25 less.

If I had a grand to spend, I'd pick up one of those SAM7 actions at that price.

Thanks for the input so far.....thought the mags might be high.....I'll adjust those.....

I agree with the others... Ammo prices actually seem a very good as does your drum price. Wish I could justify the money for them. ;)

 

If you don't mind the personal question, how much do you need to raise to fix the van vs. just buying something else that runs and drives? I've driven many $500 vehicles for years.

Didnt get a firm price yet..... I am guessing a Jasper out of the crate with installation would be between 3-4000

 

I have so many damn new parts in this van that either way I lose......If I buy another used vehicle (for wife and son to use), I run the risk of shit breaking....

If I put the money into this van (because of new brake, rotors, brake lines, tires, gas tank, front\rear axle, paint, air cond, and several other parts) it still will eventually rust away even if the engine still runs and if someone trashes it (it wont be worth the parts to the insurance company)

I have a Glock 21sf (.45) with an additional Lone Wolf barrel and stainless guide rod along with over 500 rounds......

 

 

Anyone out there that might have a decent (extra vehicle).......could trade all this for it.......

 

 

Just need decent gas mileage and cold air cond........I would drive it and give my car to the wife......

A friend and I are fixing up a Toyota Corolla right now. Can't recall what year it is, it's either late 90s or early 2000s. Transmission has been rebuilt, and we're about to rebuild the engine. The gas mileage would be pretty good, and I'm pretty sure the AC works. As long as the compressor's good, we have the equipment to recharge it anyway. It's definitely not worth as much as everything you have on offer, but if we get it up and running we might be able to make a deal - he's been wanting to get into an AK platform. I can talk to him about details and see what he thinks it's worth and if he's interested, if you are. I was planning to buy him out of his share and drive the vehicle when it's done, but already have a reliable vehicle so it's not vital. If you're interested, I'll get details and can take pics for you.


The last owner didn't know how to maintain a vehicle, and fucked the engine permanently - if I recall correctly, she let it run dry and fused a cylinder. We bought a used engine from a yard and plan to rebuild and install it.

Could sell my van for parts to offset.....so many damn new parts in it.....(shocks,struts, gas tank, tires, brake lines, brakes, rotors, air cond, etc)

In regard to your vehicle situation... and you may laugh... Early 90s Escorts are amazing. You can get a wagon (if you need the extra room) with working air, in "ok" shape, for about $1200 running and driving with working A/C @ 32mpg. Over the past 6 years on our '93 coupe I've done all brakes (including new lines... made them myself), half shafts, exhaust, all steering, water pump, tires ($400 right there), valve cover gasket, ignition switch, etc, etc... and the spreadsheet on that car brings it in at $2200 total, over 70,000 miles and 6 years. Bought it for $600 cash and drove it away. I had to put a $70 half shaft in it immediately and otherwise it was good for 2 years before I had to do some other work on it. I'm not suggesting you turn your back on your van, but a cheapie vehicle may buy you some time so you don't have to sell toys. I hate to see guys sell off stuff. BUT.. if you need to you need to.

 

I may be interested in some .45acp if your price is as fair as the rest of your ammo and its of average quality.

Sounds like there may better options than selling your toys!

 

I dropped a $5000 engine (on credit) into my 76 Dodge B200 work van, just before the housing market collapsed. They did feel morally obligated to remind me that it was going to be more than the vehicles worth but, no one was selling trucks at the time (before the economy tanked and gas went up).

 

(Did I mention that the 400 ci gets 10 MPG?)

 

I didn't have any other option but, it sounds like you do.

 

Sell your van for parts and look for another reliable vehicle.

 

Your Golden Tiger is a great deal! Had me drooling but, I wouldn't sell it....yet!

 

There is a reason we hang out here. Brother.

 

BTW, even if you keep your guns, you still get booty cred w/ the wife, for being willing to "sacrifice"!

I asked her if she was watching the temp gauge. She said yes. I asked what the temp was. She said 260F. I asked why she didnt pull over? Her answer was that I am blaming her

 

cant win no matter what. Cant put in much more OT than I already do without killing myself.......and my bills are paid, basically because of all the OT I work......

 

May try my luck parting it out...not sure yet.  Hate to sell firearms, but that may have to be my fallback plan.....

That is exactly how we ended up with an Escort to begin with! She over heated her Cavalier, cracked the head, the car wasn't worth repairing, and she needed something to drive immediately.

 

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I've literally walked this mile in those shoes! I hope you're able to come out of it without too much of a loss to your collection.

Interest rates are at an all time low on personal loans.. It may be a better option than selling your guns to get quick cash.

Her stepfather, who builds race cars and should know better (he just doesn't care), instead of doing the simple ten minute fix on the road, came and got it and drove it nearly 20 miles with  no running water pump. Blew all of the intake and head gaskets. Pulled the heads, the block was full of gel and crust from the Dexcool. All of the lifters were clogged with crud, with almost no room for oil in the plungers.

 

$700 later the heads were decked, magnafluxed, and that thing ran awesome for the couple more years she had it.

 

That job also made me decide to never again buy any FWD vehicle with a V6 stuffed into the compartment - her next car was a Suzuki SX4 4-banger, super easy to work on.. Had to raise the engine nearly six inches to get the exhaust manifolds off of the heads.

This story is proof that AAA can save a car if the owner isn't a total goofball. Buy the RV+ membership that will get your car up to 100 miles (~$125 a year) and you've already paid the piper for the towing service. Pull over, call the hook, and wait. I've had VERY good experiences with AAA bailing out my automotive-challenged lady. Jump starts, gas, towing, etc, etc... It's well worth it if the owner is adept enough to simply pick up the phone and be patient.

 

Moving on... The 3.1 is notorious for the lower intake gaskets leaking (even before the Dexcool era) and taking out the cam bearings. Your father in law may have actually saved the motor by overheating it vs. the cam and bearings getting wiped out! smile.png

 

My 3800 series II car (and its blown intake and gaskets) was my last affair with FWD V6, and any GMs outside of S10s, as well. When my intake tract exploded my car was only 3 years old and the Dexcool problems weren't widely known so I pulled the heads as well thinking the head gaskets had probably failed too. My next vehicles were: '99 TJ 4.0 (still own), '91 Mustang 5.0 (still own... basically traded the 3800 car for the 5.0... I'd say I came out ahead on that one), '98 4 cylinder S10, '01 4 cylinder S10 (still own), and the '93 Escort. Notice a trend? Engines mounted the correct direction or at least only a 4 cylinder FWD (the Escort is actually REALLY easy to work on... almost as good as my Jeep... and it's surprisingly swift to drive. It's not FAST, but it will move out and goes down the highway at 70 just dandy).

That car is on the optional 14" wheels so it may actually be getting upper 30s for mileage... 45 is a pipe dream. A new rear strut is $62 at Autozone as long as the noise is the strut and not a rusty tower!

 

OK... Just so this stays sorta on topic... I'd still take some .45acp. I'd rather buy it from a forum member than from the store anyhow. No rush.

Have you checked junkyard prices?

Some shops will install and yards give 90 to 12 month warranty.

 

What kind of van. Sorry if I missed.

 

I just fixed a 300 dollar car. Have 1200 total into a 4k car.
