Parts exchanges on LH Remington 1100

Recommended Posts

I shoot left handed and have always wanted a left handed gun but never bought one because they tend to be a little higher in cost and to sell one you sometimes take a beating.

Bought the gun (Left handed Remington 1100 Trap model) used (very used) quite a while back for $200.00 I knew I wouldn’t take a beating to sell it at that price. It had some issues most of which I fixed pretty quickly to a point where the gun would cycle but the bolt wouldn’t lock back. I picked up a couple of more used barrels fairly cheaply to go with the 30 inch full that came with the gun. Both LH and take screw in chokes 1st was a 26 inch “Target 2 ¾” only” barrel with big gas ports for a LH 11-87 (that’s one exchange) while not recommended they do work in the 1100s and then a 21 inch smooth bore slug barrel with rifle sights.

Figuring at some point I’m going to take it to a range to shoot skeet or clays not just banging away in my back yard I went to fix that bolt lock back. Found out Remington is no longer making or selling LH 1100 trigger assemblies so I picked up some replacement parts that seemed like the most likely cause of my problem a LH carrier assembly and a standard carrier latch. Yep that fixed the bolt not locking back but now the gun wouldn’t cycle reliably SOB. Took it apart and put it together a couple of times and no change with that parts exchange. So I know the problem is in the trigger assembly and chances are the previous owner disabled the lock to get the gun to cycle. I began watching for a LH trigger assembly with no luck or the price was higher than I wanted to pay.

I started reading and found that about 50% of the people on line state a RH trigger assembly works fine in a LH gun. Bought a very new used one for $50.00 on line looked at the two of them side by side and put it in yesterday (parts exchanged). Gun runs fine bolt locks back so LH 1100s do run with a RH trigger fine. I need to take it out and put in the LH safety but that will wait till I need to do a cleaning because right now I’m not going to mess with success.

Last thing to tackle on this gun is the damn feed latch needs to be re-staked in place which is also why I’m in no hurry to take that trigger in and out again for a day or two.
