jeffmack 0
I was cleaning my .308 and took the gas tube off, and now I cannot get it back on enough to get the lever back down. What's the trick?
Mullet Man 2,114
Make sure the keeper is lined up correctly by positioning the lever, you'll see it move when you rotate it. Tap or squeeze the gas tube in with the palm of your hand. If it cane out, it will go back in. Edited June 27, 2014 by Mullet Man
Shandlanos 1,470
You may need to use a fair amount of force - just make sure the lever is in the correct position first.Sometimes it can be a pain in the ass to rotate the lever over the lip of the rear of the gas tube even when the tube is placed correctly. If you need additional leverage, the tube from a standard AK cleaning kit can help.
JESS1344 508
JEFFMACK, THERES A SHORT TONGUE ON THE BOTTOM REAR OF THE GAS TUBE. SAID TONGUE GOES IN A CORRESPONDING GROOVE AT THE FRONT-SIDE OF THE REAR SIGHT BASE. MAKE SURE THE REAR OF THE GAS TUBE IS SEATED ALL THE WAY DOWN AGAINST THE REAR SIGHT BASE. IF THERES ANOTHER AK/SAIGA AROUND, SHINE A LIGHT IN ON THAT AREA TO SEE HOW IT SHOULD SEAT. APPLY A MODERATE QUANTITY OF SHOOTERS CHOICE RED GREASE IN THE PLASTIC HYPO TO ALL INTERFACING SURFACES OF THE REAR SIGHT, AND THE REAR OF THE GAS TUBE. WITH A 1OZ PLASTIC-HEADED HAMMER, OR THE BUTT OF A PLASTIC-HANDLED SCREWDRIVER, TAP LIGHTLY ON THE REAR OF THE GAS TUBE, WHILE GENTLY MASTURBATING IT AROUND, UNTIL IT SEATS. APPLY A FAIRLY GENEROUS AMOUNT OF RED GREASE TO THE ANGLED FACE ON THE TOP REAR OF THE GAS TUBE THAT THE LOCK LEVER ROTATES AGAINST, AND USING THE SLOT CLOSEST TO THE CLOSED END OF THE COMBO TOOL TUBE, GENTLY ROTATE THE LEVER DOWN AND LOCKED. DON'T FORCE NOTHIN! USING A PIPE CLEANER BENT DOUBLE, AND MASHED SHUT, WIPE UP THE EXCESS RED GREASE. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REPEAT THIS THE FIRST SEVERAL TIMES YOU BREAK IT DOWN FOR CLEANING OR WHATEVER, BUT IT'LL WEAR-IN WITH TIME. JESS1344
