Would you do the bullet guide for a saiga conversion or just use saiga

I am getting ready to do a saiga conversion and I have most of my parts figured out. I am stuck on the bullet guide conversion that allows you to use AK mags. It seems there are numerous Saiga mag options now so I am thinking the bullet guide is a waste of time and money.

 

What do you think? Seems like the tapping would not be as strong as an option to just using the saiga mags.

Use a bullet guide.

 

SGammo has AK magazines for around $8 right now.

Install the bullet guide, and say to hell with paying extra for proprietary mags. As far as the strength of the tap/bg is concerned, a little bit of red locktite and that thing aint goin anywhere--ever.

Sounds great guys. thanks. do you know if most saigas need the round or flat bullet guide? mine is a izshmash build around 1999.

Best to physically look at the area of the trunion where it goes, if the area below the barrel is notched flat it's a flat, if round it's a round

I don't have a saiga that can use a bullet his but if I had a x39 if I.did one thing it would be the bullet guide. Ak mags are super cheap and everywhere. Saiga mags......not do much.

I have had round and flat trunnion Saigas.  They can be either, even in the same year.  I by the guide from Dinzag or Carolina Shooters Supply.  I made one for a round trunnion with a piece of pipe nipple.  It worked fine, but was a real time consuming job.  Considering how cheap the guides are now, I am just buying for this Saiga.
