I really don't feel the need for another $55 mag plus $7 shipping. I have several poly mags that all work well. On the other hand, I am very curious about the steel mags, and have read a lot of rave reviews on them.

If they ever go on a sale, maybe $40 - $45 or even free shipping I will most likely try one.

Yeah, I feel you. Went over to the CSSPECS web site tonight to look them over again. No scratch and dent mags left for sale, and the others are $55 a pop plus shipping, and he currently has 487 of them on hand.

I want some bad, but I simply can't pay that price for one mag. Maybe others can and will, but can't.....

Its a direct correlation to how long they take to produce and the cost of the parts used in production.

Also figure that the tooling cost was supposed to be spread on three years of production.. And guess what happened four days ago? (clue it looks like "anned" and has a "B" at the beginning).....

I may be a little bitter for the next couple weeks or so.

Also.

I feel really bad about this ban. Not for shooters so much as people like csspec and other custom rifle makers. Alot of people are going to lose their businesses or at least it will be changed from what they want to do.

Don't have any for the 12 ga yet, but the .308 mags were worth every penny... Will defiantly be getting some.. Finances have been dismal this quarter.

It's an awful break, but that said, pretty much every Saiga in inventory was sold at one time, in a period of a few days - and a bunch more will be trading hands over the next few months -

From what I can tell, about 1,000 Vepr 12's are available for sale as of today..  no telling how many Saigas and Veprs sold last week, but if you believe the Russians, they were looking for 100k sales in the US this year - and you know they dumped everything they had available at us as fast as they could after about March..  figure 50k new guns, plus a boatload of guns will be popping out of safes across the country & finding new homes (and those new owners are gonna want extra mags)..

And at the same time, the makers of the plastic mags will have a decision to make as to whether or not to do another run of mags - (I picked up 22 SGM 12 rounders off the clearance bin with my Saiga 12 for $13.xx each)..   - doubt that retailer will order any more with profits like that!

It's gonna be hard to convince the big chain stores to devote shelf space for plastic mags for a "dead" gun  & harder still for a small retailer to justify selling a couple mags a week at a few dollars profit, per mag.  Not cheaper than dirt is out of $15 Saiga mags, and they still show some $20 saiga mags - but those will disappear over the next couple weeks as everyone gets their new toys.  The next batch of plastic mags will cost more than the $45 each most have been selling them for, so $45 ~ $55 isn't really too bad of a spread..

If it were me, I'd double down on advertising & social media (facebook) - Let people know those mags are available -

Peddle them on Gunbroker, Calguns, - the other various state forums -  The High Road, etc..

Send some free ones to the guy @ "the truth about guns", so when those new Saiga/Vepr owners get their guns over the next few weeks, and they go looking for goodies - cssspecs pops on their google search.

You already have a better product - I've never seen one and I know it,  just let people know it's out there - even if it isn't the cheapest, it should last the lifetime of the gun -

which makes it an excellent value & worth the investment.

Zippy I agree 100% about the social media aspect, id go farther and send afew free samples to all the big youtube guys if they will do a review video.

I'd probably go one step further & try to cut a deal with someone like Cope's, Aim Surplus, Classic, etc for a big run on whatever mags you have quantity of  -

An email blast from one of the big guys could probably move several hundred mags in just a couple days, which would both get the brand name out there &

get a cash infusion to offset some of the sunk development costs.

You know that the week of July 28th there will be 600+ new Vepr owners out there who each got *1*  five-round mag with their gun..  lol.. (Buds and Classic's pre-orders)

I know if I wanted 5 rounds in a shotgun, I wouldn't need a Vepr!

I should have jumped on the scratch and dent, but I don't feel all that bad about $55/mag. Having them in hand makes it a lot more palatable. These things are fucking tanks. Still have to file them a bit to fit, but otherwise, I'm pretty happy with them, and will keep an eye on CSS for other things in the future.

We should have some "scratch and dents" fairly soon.. I have 14 crates of mags to sort this next week, likely some have a little scuffing or scratches.

We may do a sale for "expiration day" which is September 13, marking the 10th year since the expiration of the federal AWB..

Csspecs,

I paid more than $55. per mag & I still think they were worth every penny.

Fit, function, durability & appearance are freaking great, thanks for making these a reality.

Same goes for my original MD20, it was worth every penny of $260.00

I bought another at the current pricing, the 1st is still money well spent.

HA,

Yeah I wish I did not make them. It would be easier to do sales if I had others making them for me..

  • 2 weeks later...

Here is a link, http://stores.csspecs.com/saiga-12-gauge/

They're built tough as a tank!! It took a little filing to get it to fit my 08 vodka special, but it's the best built magazine compared to the other US made plastic stick magazines

by a longshot!!! Highly recommended.!!!!

Your price is in line for steel mags. for this weapon! People are just use to plastic prices. What those people aren't thinking about is, this is a banned weapon now, how long will their plastics mags last? How long will companies continue to run the plastic ones, I'll bet they'll be glad to pay 100 per mag a couple years from now................

Just ordered 3. WIth the Coupon for 5% off they are $54.58 including shippiing. I have Russian 8 rounders and I am interested to see how these compare at half the price (or less in my case).

Hey man, how did you use the forum discount? I might have missed it, but I didn't see a place to enter a coupon code when I had a mag in my shopping cart on the CS site...

I used the discount on a recent order. If I remember, You have to continue on with the order to the part where you enter your shipping address and CC#. There is a box where you can enter gift card or coupon. It's only 5%, but every bit adds up. Good luck.

I received my magazine today. Very nice workmanship, but I will say this-filing it to fit is a bit more difficult than claimed. The first part filing until the mag would go all the way in wasn't that hard. I am still working on the second part, filing until the catch will snap into place. I wore myself out and it still isn't snapping into place. Will work some more on it tomorrow.

It varies a lot gun to gun, and the size and quality of file does play a big part in how much effort it takes to fit them.

If you have a decent vise that has semi smooth jaws, you can grab the top half of the rear catch to do the second part. Its way faster if your not chasing the mag around. I find that setting the mag on a slight angle so that the area being filed is flat speeds the process by a good amount, since it takes less effort to find flat than some random angle. Once you get close, coloring the bare section with a bit of sharpie marker will show you any high spots the catch is contacting (the high spots will have the marker rubbed off).

In my defense, the forum members requested them to be tight and free of wiggles, even if fitting was needed.. Thus they are.

FINALLY filed enough off to get the magazine to snap into place. Stuffed 8 rounds into her and took her out back. 8 out of 8 flawless. Might hit it a little bit more with the file, but I'd say, the magazine works very well. Very nice workmanship. Not cheap, but then again, it is cheaper than the Ruskie 8 rounder. Get some!
