paprotective 362
I have done the wood back in 2007 with my 1st.. I did the Tapco thing on the 5.45 in 2008.. What should I do for my new 1st (again) 762x39 16" thats inbound?? Maybe something like this?? I am ready to order from CSS.. so I just want to get it straight before I 'dig' in.. The good news I got 3 coming from Classic for the shop and get to pick 1 from them..
imarangemaster 315
Howdy pard! Nice to see another "Old Timer" on the board! Try an East German or Romanian side folder. They work with the stock trunnion and are tough as hell. Make it "retro" with a wood Romanian pistol grip handguard. Everybody and their brother has a "tacticool" AK. Inebriated 31
Left field idea... Leave it as it is, and go for some nice walnut furniture. Might have to make it yourself, but would be a SWEET project.
paprotective 362
Since I didn't get too much feedback and the Bonesteel folder (or other) would have resulted in $362 for parts.. I opted for kinda simple. CAA Aluminum Tube with MagPul CTR, MagPul AK Grip, and Tapco Intrafuse Handguard. Conversion kit from CSS with Intrafuse was $131 CAA Tube was $76 MagPul CTR (commercial per CAA sight) was $56 Total was $256 Going with wood and adding the gas tube and lower retainer would have ran me $273 or more.. :/ Will post pics when I get it in and setup. horatio 515
Sorry, didn't see this until today. I have a 39 coming in and I've decided to make it a nice classic Russian red. Tactical just doesn't belong on an ak. Best of luck with your build

imarangemaster 315
I actually like (prefer) my Tapco Intrafuse handguard over the small Com-block ones. I have had AK finger sizzle more than once.
paprotective 362
Slight change.. ordered the MagPul AK grip for it.. can't run the Yugo grip or I'll be 1 off for the 922r stuff.. Kinda lucky since I run a small g-shop and convinced my partner to order 3.. so I get to choose from them.. Classic had issues with their UPS.. finally shipped them yesterday.. & due in Thursday.. paprotective 362
Well the 1st build with E German folder and Intrafuse handguard went to my partner, threading that today/tonight for him.. I've decided on another E German side folder with some NOS new wood handguards from APEX. Got the parts, gas tube, and CSS retainer ordered up last night.. Build #2 starts soon.. (other build is in VEPR forum by accident) Should look something like this.. Edited August 4, 2014 by YWHIC
