tbryanh 11
As a result of the ban on imported Saiga's, are you going to switch to an AR15 for your next rifle? Edited July 24, 2014 by tbryanh

Matthew Hopkins 1,065
already have a couple AR-15s, one is a M16A1 wannabe, assembled from a complete NIW COLT USGI M16A1 upper assembly, I bought back in 04. the other is a M4wannabe on a ARMALITE lower assembly. I also have a couple AKs in 5.56, a SAR 3 and a Bulgarian SLR106UR.
toothandnail 275
Yes, I doubt I'll ever buy another AK of any kind. The ones I have haven't been shot in over 2 years. Last AK I shot was FA Also have a S12 and a Vepr12, don't think they will be shot either. No offence, AK's are very reliable(dont know about the SG's) but they are just too rough for me. I just can't decide if I want to sell them or not. Kicking myself for not selling last Dec-Jan.

james lambert 3,059
I have been building AR15s for over 30 years, have had about every config you can think of. Started Manufacturing them about 10 years ago. Had more calibers than I can remember between the AR15 and AR10. Cant imagine how many rounds down range. Just never had the problems some people claim they have . Built a bunch of Saiga 12s for 3gun, converted a bunch of Saiga rifles for people. Had plenty of other AKs over the years. From coast to coast have never seen an AK at any kind of match, not 3gun long range or any other. They have a place, and I enjoy them. But If I am in competition I use an AR15 or AR10. If I am At work and a rifle is needed, I use an AR15. And if TSHTF its the AR I will take with me (along with others) I have uppers in 22lr up to 50 bwuff, I can shoot about any ammo I can find in a pinch including some pistol cal, AND 762x39. I really like playing with AKs,, but the AR is my go to
Ronin38 2,117
I already have 2 AR rifles: .223 and 6.8 SPC. Also an AR pistol, .223.
mancat 2,366
Have never owned an AR, but plan to build one now. Looking at building a 20" A4 clone, as I would really like to do some longer range shooting with 5.56, but not picky enough to make it a bull/varmint barrel. I still have a 5.56 AK-74 that I need to build. I will still have a spare carrier and bolt left over to share between that rifle and the Saiga, should I need to. The only other AK I have interest in at this point is the 5.56 Zastava M21/M90, but nobody seems to be selling it. Or a Sig 556, technically still an AK, but have steered clear due to the QC issues. I doubt I will buy another 7.62x39 rifle at this point. I have five of them, and about 6k rounds of ammo. Because of the questionable future of cheap 7.62x39, I make every shot count. Fortunately all the 7.62x39 rifles I own are accurate enough. Edited July 25, 2014 by mancat

csspecs 1,987
Hard to say.. Its not like the last 20+ years of imports dried up in a week.. I still see MAK-90s for reasonable prices. So maybe an AK is still in my future. I am thinking of doing a 9mm AR-15 pattern for the advantage of reloadable ammo. I did some math and I could reload 9mm for something like 10 cents or less a round. Apparently one can reload 9mm brass a dozen or more times. .308 and .223 are much more limited on reloads. Spacehog 2,218
Nope. My next two builds will be converting a Saiga .223 and Saiga 7.62..... Then I will build a couple more AR's. I love both platforms for different reasons.

I like this idea. Think I'd build from a pistol lower and arm brace it. Compact and cheap. .300 AAC is another option, but only if you have the availability to produce your own brass from .223. Be one of the best for suppressor work.

csspecs 1,987
When I get to reloading, I'm going to try a recipe I found that used a ridiculously small charge of shotgun powder. It works out to something like 8K+ rounds off an 8 lb jug.. My plan was to load "third world surplus grade" ammo at below the cost of surplus. To many people get into reloading to save money, and end up trying to make premium ammo. If I'm at it to save money, I'm going to load with that in mind. I still love my home made slugs, just need to get a rifled barrel to hit anything past 40 yards. But the two five gallon buckets full only cost 6 cents a round to make at the time. hdskumm 39
I'll probably save for another year or so and get an AR-308, I never had much interest in the AR-15. We'll have to see how the cheap ammo situation goes before I consider another AK. On the ammo note, maybe in another 5 years people will stop hoarding 22LR so I can find some for sale for reasonable prices and I'll get an M&P-
Tigerclaw_x 1
My next rifles: 1) PTR32 (HK style rifle using 7.62x39) 2) AK74 Bulgarian 3) Ruger Mini 14. Already have AR15 in 5.56x45. 20" barrel. So I will get for it: 1) 7.62x39 upper (20" barrel) 2) 5.45x39 upper (20" barrel) After these purhcases my semi auto rifle collection is complete. I will be getting more Enfield rifles: 1 in 7.62x51 and 1 in

SgtRaven 531
"Some day" I'll build 100% American PDW: AKM based bullpup. Not giving up on AK platform, but not buying anything Russian-made any longer. I wonder if Romanians are jumping up'n'down and high-fiving each other, packing the crates with their AK-s, ready to ship? Would love to see Polish joining the ranks.
555JM 10
Never say 'Never'; but I doubt I'll ever go AR. Not really a fan of SA rifles to begin with and the utilitarian aspect of the Saiga perfectly matches the practical purposes I have in mind. With my current contingent of Saigas plus a couple of Mini-14s, my SA rifle needs are well met. I've tried to get interested in the AR platform, but it doesn't work for me. Plus, being in NY, there ARE restrictions. For that reason, it's good that I left the Saigas unconverted.
DLT 1,646
Not sure. Would like a bolt action short barrel 308 as my next rifle.

mancat 2,366
Like the sig556 not the ar basesed. The xi version looks real nice. More than need or want. But cool the prices are outrageous for a rifle that has known QC problems. too bad, I would really love one, but they are not worth over $1k, especially since they basically require visual inspection to check if GTG. some people are posting them on auction sites for $2 - get real. all SIG USA had to do was bring the Swiss blueprints into a US factory, but apparently this was too hard to do. gas ports drilled backwards, too small, wobbling furniture, etc. Edited August 16, 2014 by mancat
TacSat 90
True the eairler ones had problems. It seems they are fixed. But then again we all bought Saigas with possible of geting a vodka special. Sigs are warrantied as well. But I wont know till I have money . Who knows when that will be. ggn72ru 1
In Russia banned the import of AR, on the contrary. Therefore, I am now waiting for the Saiga 5,45*39 will appear on the civilian market.
SgtRaven 531
Made my mind and getting SIG556xi, despite all. Talked to local shop about doing thorough inspection and strip before paying for it, plus some money back conditions (in works). Yeah, I think they're pricier than they should be, but I'm buying into the "concept", rather than "version" or clone of something already established. I shot 556 and like it. Some might argue about it being the "Cadillac of AKs" (per Gabe Suarez), but this is what I wish AK line would step up to: more than stamped-receiver AK clone and less (read: "simpler" and more rugged) than AR. (Like it or not, IMO every armed household should have AR in possession). Edited August 19, 2014 by Sgt. Raven
sunnybean 939
No, not really. Last year I bought a PWS MK116 and a Sig 516. This year I purchased a Beretta ARX100 and my Galil receivers just came in from cncwarrior. Once the paperwork is back, I'll build a R5 clone and a Micro Galil clone. I also have a DDLES small frame Glock AR lower approved that I need to collect parts for and build up. All of this would have happened despite any chickenshit political games.
