Spacehog 2,218
I wanted to share a few pics of my S223 after pulling it out of the Kpup. I stripped the receiver with full intentions to repaint with DE1634 and add some nicely finished NOS laminate wood. After stripping it, I liked the old worn patina that was left. Threw on some untouched beat up Balkan furniture I bought a while back for 16.99/set and I am happy. Still have to add a FSB (it was removed for the Kpup) and add a sling, I also want to pick up some steel Galil mags that can be made to match the patina: Edited August 10, 2014 by Spacehog
Long Shot 1,287
Looks perfect. Battle worn is a good look for an AK.
Shandlanos 1,470
Looks good! What did you use to strip it?
Spacehog 2,218
Looks good! What did you use to strip it? Citri-Strip in the spray can. Removes most of the factory finish but still leaves paint in the pores and crevices. (Followed up with a SS bristle brush) Edited August 10, 2014 by Spacehog
Shandlanos 1,470
Thanks, that's really good to know. I have a BFP build I'd like to do eventually, and that came out really well.
HighPlainsDrifter 466
I like the look but how do aim that thing..?
Shandlanos 1,470
Read - he said he plans to replace the FSB, which was removed for the Kushnapup.
Spacehog 2,218
I like the look but how do aim that thing..? I have a couple of new FSBs on order. I am using the side mount with a PA micro dot until I can get them in and installed. Eventually it will be an iron sights gun.
ctpunk 0
I agree, the patina looks cool and some steel mags will really complete the look.
Spacehog 2,218
New FSB installed and Galil metal mags came in. Final product below: If I ever want to make it look like new rifle, it's nice to know it is just a can of DE1634 and swapping the furniture out. But I think the rifle will remain in this configuration for a while and it is shooting great.

G O B 3,516
There is a lot to be said about a 'not pretty' gun. I like the look!
