Czech made Maxrounds 20 round drum

Recommended Posts

I got this for helping out a shooter from the Czech Republic at the Rocky Mountain 3 Gun World Shoot last week.  It is a Maxrounds PowerMag 650, 20 round drum that is made from aluminum and comes with belt clip and an extra coil spring.  No carry case, packaging or literature is included, only what you see in the picture (minus ammo) I have no use for it because it will not fit my R&R Saigas.  It is lightly used and I was told it will fit Saiga shotguns with the original mag latch system.  Looks like the tower is long enough to fit Rock and Lock and Russian style magwells.  Feel free to PM me if you have questions and check out their website at www.maxrounds.com.  Asking $275 shipped.

Doug

I converted a maxrounds drum to work in a magwell saiga12, some time ago. Works Great.

Even though it was made for a magwell  saiga / vepr. The feed tower is in 2 parts & flexes to much with the recoil, causing stoppages.

The next problem you will find is the spring needs fine tuning. What i mean is you get it to run fine with one type of cartridge. Change your "cartridge make" or shot size it goes "tits up".

I also made a MD20 magwell drum, That bitch runs 100%, never had a stoppage yet.

If anybody has a spare MD20 or has a fucked up one after trying to fit it, lying around. I would love to make one for the MKA / BR99

I will tear the drum down then extract all the geometry.

That way I can redesign or change any part I wish, and reproduce it if needed

I have a number of drum designs using different materials and methods.

This drum at least externally looks like one I have built before,

It used components from a russian 762 drum.

Drums that are all machined aluminum are quite expensive, thats why so few exist.

I am looking to make one using aluminum and delrin, and a few sneeky ideas to decrease friction

Its just a fun thing,

CNC machine + extract all the geometry + redesign, reproduce ect. ect.

My method :- 1 x drum + 1 x mag + 1 x 6 pack (maybe 2) = 1 x working MKA / BR99 Drum. Simple

Its just a beer mag thing.

Giggle

I dont program very well with beer goggles on, Its hard enough when Im soberhaha.gif

I did the MD drums and the little 12rnd viper drums by hand.

But in the end after lots and lots of hours in the drum project.

Pushing cycle start is my prefered method

Glad I made you smile.

I'm just a "garden shed" inventer.

My problem is what I make works!!!

It takes people like me to push things forward so companies can produce for all.

Good luck with your projects

Here's one for you, around 2009 I invented a LRBHO for the Saiga 12, works with "non magwell" & "magwell" guns also any magazine, stick or drum. Still working as it should today.

Try having a go at that one.

Steve.

Steve.

Been there done that. Still working great. Hoping to find someone to help me take my handmade parts and convert them to machine language and mass produce. Been on the back burner since 2009 here.

Thanks buddy!

pics would be nice

Jim just let me know anything in particular you might want to see and I will get close up pics and / or measurements for you.

They're just holding a couple of doors open ATM but actually do work in some guns.

Jim let me know if you want any pics or anything of the AA drums for comparison. I have the 12 and 20 ga versions here.

How has the 20g drum worked for you?

Pleasantly surprised with the 20 rd. It seems to work great with no mods to the gun.

I really like my 20ga, but that is the only drum avail. How much would you pay for one within a range of well used -bnib? I don't ever consider a drum a "need" lol, but they are the icing on the cake for a mag-fed shotgun.

Didn't Promag come out with one for the 20 ga also? I know I have one of their 410 drums & it's awesome. As are the 12 ga drums.

Yeah drums to me are mostly just novelties but it's cool to be able to feed that many rds when you feel like it!!  027.gif

Damn blurry pics my lens must have been dirty..

Thanks Shannon

a pic of the follower would be nice or of the drum empty.

Its plain to see the max round drum came from this drum.

Didn't Tromix make a drum at one time?

I'm not sure but would definitely not surprise me knowing Tony.

Yeah if it's not a direct reverse engineering job or altered copy then I don't know what else it could be. I remember when they first started showing up in those videos chewing up cars in the UK lol.

I'll shoot ya some closeups of the empty mags & followers. The one S-12 follower is chewed the hell up from part of it's poor design.

Since I have made 2 different magwell drums (each has different problems to overcome)

With the Maxrounds drum, I take it the "arm" which is attached to the follower & rotary shell carrier is unable to come up as it rubs up against the side of the feed tower, that's why you have to offset it?

If only I could get a drum over here.

That's the reason I haven't made one yet.

Did you test fire it in a saiga/vepr before trying to convert it a MKA/BR drum?

The max round drum has issues, does not reliably feed up the stack.

The slot for the rims is in error, they sometimes slip out.

The follower arm binds as well, the (bolt circle) as I call it is in error as well.

and some other things .

Im not copying this or any drum.

I am re engineering some aspects of drums in general .

My drum feeds tangent off of the (bolt circle) no angular change in direction, just transition from radial to linear .

It also has easy external spring tension adjustment, and can use 3" shells (I wish it wouldn't but you know people)

All aluminum billet construction with some poly parts machined as well.

Steel feed stack.

I was going to just make a new stack for the Max drum, but decided not to go half way and just make a better product.

I may make a feed stack for Saiga or vepr but for now its for MKA type firearms.

And no the max drum did not impress me as to function in saigas.

PS if I do a saiga stack I will make sure it clears mag wells
