I have seen the Chaos HK sights that are recommended for this but I am looking for suggestions on what others have used. I'm looking for something around the price of the HK sights, $100, either red dot, holographic, or iron sights. Restore my sight to my Saiga 12!!!! Quote Link to post Share on other sites

DavidQ 170 Posted September 2, 2014 Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2014 I think the magpul sights wouldn't be too bad, and I think the micro dot may be a little too small for me to visually target. How far back on the rail did you mount it to so it didn't seem like the dot was too far away? My ultimate goal would be to mount something similar to the krebs custom ghost ring setup. Something low enough that I would not have to raise my head to high to see but also something that doesn't have a rediculously long sight plane, unless that would be better for shooting? I have had that setup on a previous saiga 12 build and in my opinion, it is the best iron sight setup for this shotgun. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

My eyes are getting too old for blade type iron sights, although I can still do pretty well with peeps. I say that because you are asking the opinion from some one who has already made the jump to red dots on most of my rifles that are not setup for long distance shooting. So I may not be the most objective opinion out there. As far as the two red dots in question. The BSA is the 30mm Stealth tactical with the laser and flashlight attachment removed. It is a well built re dot and be had for around $70. It is on the heavy side, but very manageable. The best thing about it is built in dust caps that close with rotation of the front and rear eye pieces, and a huge objective that gives a clear field of view. With both eyes open, the scope disappears and the red/green dot superimposes in your field of view. Down side is weight. The PA MD-06 is very light and has been dependable on everything I have mounted it on. It comes in two different flavors: one with the control dial on the left and another with the control dial on the right. I learned the hard way to get the one with the controls on the left to make sure brass does not hit the dial upon ejection. It has performed well on my S12, although it has been mounted on a side rail mount as opposed to the top of the receiver. I would think being mounted on top of the Chaos that close to the action, would cause it take a little more of a beating, but in short, yeah I think it would hold up. The upsides of the PA microdots are definitely their small size and durability. The down side is that the emmitter for the red dot is located at the 7:30 position and obscures some of your field of view. The sight picture is not as good as a result. I have gotten used to it, but some people hate it. The other drawback is the mount that comes with it is junk in my opinion. They are over sized without enough adjustment to tighten down completely on some rails. The up side it the the red dot itself conforms to an Aimpoint mount, so there are plenty of high quality mounts than can be purchased for it. My 300 BLK uses one with a Seekins precision mount to co-witness with the front sites. Sorry for the long-winded response. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

AR-height irons will be pretty tall, which is sorta unnecessary on this platform. Typically, a longer sight radius is preferred so most folks mount their sights as far apart as possible. Peep sights are more for precise rifle shooting. Now if they opened up the aperture more then maybe I would be interested. The flip up options look like they require a horrible cheek weld. Edit, maybe a LGS can cut dove tails into a coupe rail slots, one out front, one in back.
