forsaken352 235
Isn't that a VEPR 12?
Wagnikov 186
Nah, saiga is based on ak. Vepr on rpk. Soooo the front handguards are tale-tell. Also the no bulges in the reciever for the front trunnion. Vepr shave a tad nicer adjustable sights too. But no it's an iz-433 AKA siaga
forsaken352 235
I see. Wasn't aware that there was a Saiga 12 that doesn't have an adjustable gas block. ETA: Is this yours? If so, looking good! Edited September 19, 2014 by forsaken352

forsaken352 235
Oh I didn't miss the sanctions.. I got my .308 the very day that the sanctions took place. Wasn't even trying, it just happened that way. I've had a 12 for awhile now, I just wasn't aware that there was a model that had the gas block/FSP all built in because I thought all Saigas had adjustable gas blocks and I thought only the VEPR 12's had the gas block/FSP arrangement. I were wrong.
Wagnikov 186
Only down side to the saiga iz-433 is the LRBHO doesn't release the bolt like the vepr. The vepr is bulkier in the handguard, heavier, and has a plastic top rail. Other than that almost identical guns.
smb 3
Dammit. Great minds think alike right? I am in the middle of the exact project on my S12. Glad to see it looks good when done like that.
Wagnikov 186
I like it! Mild thoughts of shortening and perming to replicate a 16" barrel look. No going back on that tho! I'll ge the wood laminate stock on first and seen if needs to be further tweaked. Pretty simple tho. Get the closest military saiga ever imported, which can no longer be imported, and hack it up! Lol (I do have in my possession an replacement fsb/fgb, so worst case scenerio was considered)
Wagnikov 186
Thanks to HPD and Dinzag for the ak74 style brake, bayo lug(not installed) and fsb(ordered yesterday) this was the fsb off one of my other 040 guns. If anyonehas struggled with removing that fsb you gotta heat the shit out of it and the epoxy/glue/locktite wth it is will start on fire and grow like a 4th of July smoke-snakes. It will then tap off( obv the set screw under the sight crosspin must be loosened)
JDeko 792
Where does one acquire a bayonet lug for an S12?

From what i have been told the Vepr 12 LRBHO will fix this issue if installed in an IZ-433. I will be testing this theory, and will try to source the Vepr 12 LRBHO from Russia, if this does indeed work.

It's either catches randomly while shooting, or dosent catch at all. I read somewhere that the only difference is the length of the finger on the end that contacts the follower? Some vepr ones would be great if they interchange as they work perfectly on that gun. Cobra 76 two 2,677
The difference that probably effects it most is the added over sized rivet in the Vepr's hinged dust cover near the front. It's purpose is to keep downward pressure on the carrier so it doesn't hop over the bolt stop.
JDeko 792
what bayonets fit the Dinzag bayonet lug? AK-types or just AR ones.
Wagnikov 186
On the shotgun I believe it's the AR bayo

Wagnikov 186
So do I chop n perm to get rifle proportions? With the muzzle permed you could actually replicate a 16 1/4" barrel. Thus far I haven't done anything irreversible. I cut off the fsb/gb but I bought a spare first. Also a cleaning rod would finish the look up. But I'm not sure how you would do that? Comments and ideas welcome.
gunfun 3,931
That seems to be what you want. Why not? I can't see that you would ever want to revert format.
Wagnikov 186
We'll I just wish I would bought two of the 030 guns @799$. Shame on me. I have had temporary buyers remorse because some of these guns are so expensive, but in the long run I have regretted NOT buying many many more times than having made the purchase. I am tempted to install a poly folder from kvar with the butt pad, as I installed an ak100 poly on my saiga 7.62 rifle. But I can't stand that there is a relief in the Side of the stock for a side rail, and this gun doesn't have a side rail installed. A triangle folder would be brutal. So I guess I'm back to full wood furniture. Really don't mind the black plastic at all, because you don't have to worry about banging it around.
Mullet Man 2,114
You could always buck up ($500ish) for the SVDS side folder. I think Legion USA still has some in stock. They also have (or had) Izzy butt pads for the triangle stocks.

Adding a side rail would seem like a piece of cake compared with installing the folder if that's how you want to do it.
