nonni13 1
I was working on my Saiga the other day and noticed a little crack in my bolt carrier. Now after looking around for a replacement I run into a little dilemma. My question is, can a bolt carrier for 7.62x39 work for a Saiga .223? I have searched all over on websites looking for a replacement I started wondering if the bolt carrier is in fact the same on all Saiga rifles? If that would be the case it would be very easy to order one of those advertised as 7.62x39 carriers and buying a Tapco gas piston as a replacement.
thebuns1 4,323
If its a saiga carrier you can. Otherwise you'll need a bulgy '74 series. You can't take an AKM pattern carrier and run it in your Saiga. The bolt stem is way smaller on the 100 series.

tbryanh 11
Except for the spring loaded firing pin, aren't the bolt and bolt carriers identical and interchanceable between the Saiga in .223 and the Saiga in 5.45? nonni13 1
cool thanks guys, yeah I think I will try and see if I can get it welded. Save me a buck or two.

Pretty much. 5.45 bolt slightly larger rim face (grabs a 5.56 rim fine), no sprung pin.
