ninja1 0
Hi All, and thanks for the many great tips! I have been working my Saiga over fairly well, and now have "restored" it, AK style. I'm hear in NJ so I cant go too crazy. I am curious as to what is that small patch of rough sand paper like material on the side of the receiver. It is black and about 1/2" wide x 1" long. Comments please.

Sim_Player 1,939
It is the place where an obsolete importers stamp used to be.

Bigtwin 219
It is the place where an obsolete importers stamp used to be. Yep, I cant remember who it was, might have been RRA Match striker. Might work for that, use strike anywhere matches. lol

ninja1 0
Well I guess no one knows? I thought that someone seriously must know about this! It certainly looks like a match striker. I probably will remove it when I do my refinishing work. Just don't want to find out later that there is some purpose to keep it.
SGL 530
Sim_Player gave you a straight answer. It's serves no practical function...it's just where the old importer's mark was removed.
ninja1 0
OK thanks! What were the old importers?

Wagnikov 186
It's not a dealbreaker for me, but I will pay less, or choose the one out of two that doesn't have that stupid ugly a$$ @&%%+>£ square on the side.
ninja1 0
I wonder if I sand it off, if it will show the importer inscription?
Wagnikov 186
It's very deep. So I'm gonna say no. There wouldn't be much material left on the reciever.
Spacehog 2,218
Like was previously stated, if it bothers you, use bondo, JB weld, or epoxy to fill, sand smooth and repaint.
ninja1 0
I guess I will leave it as the "match striker". Lol
Grinderhead 1
Both of mine are match striker recievers made in 09. But on the right side, I believe there was more than one importer that was scratched out.
Sim_Player 1,939
I used epoxy after sanding, on one of mine. I also epoxied the old rivet holes. It's very hard to see now. To be honest, it never really bothered me anyway. Edited November 12, 2014 by Sim_Player
