My new truck damaged by Robert Sheckley or Shockley in MD

Recommended Posts

On I-70 East, between South Mountain and I-270 at about 5:30 AM Thu 11/20/14, a white late model, (2008-2013) Chevrolet Silverado, last four of the license Maryland 9154, with silver bedside toolboxes on it and Robert Sheckley or Shockley on the doors in arched lettering, bounced an object out of the uncovered bed full of tools, striking my new truck in the driver’s side grille, breaking it.

$600 to replace the grille. Needless to say, insurance covers it, minus the deducible. Still, I'm PISSED. Some jerk doesn't cover his load, and I get a NEW truck damaged. He should be fined.

Now, I'm thinking of getting a stainless steel grille guard. A good one is expensive, but deer are a favorite road obstacle here in PA/MD, especially since MD DOT started spraying the roads with molasses and salt to keep the ice down. Deer LOVE it.

Maybe the Westin HDX in stainless?

What do you think?

Here in phx the trucks full of illegals drop ladders, sawhorses, shovels, rakes, bricks, 5gal buckets of paint...  I hit a spare tire (wheel included) a while back.  I've also dodged falling bbq grills and office furniture that fell off trucks in front of me.

Same shit here, highways are totally littered with their droppings.

That's a real pisser.

I bought my wife a new car last year. Her first trip into town, less than 100 miles on it some asshat smacked into it in a parking lot and took off. She came out of her friends apartment to find her new car bashed in.

Wrecked the rear quarter panel and bumper. $1800.00 damage just like that.

It's never good but It seems to hurt more when it's new.

Road Armor has very nice stuff. More geared for the off-road crowd.

Winch bumper brush guard combo options are slick. You can get satin black or unfinished ready to paint and have it done any color.

One of the guys I work with sent his out for Crome plating. Another had one powder coated to match his blaze orange blazer.

I've hit deer before. It's NOT pretty. If you want to save your truck, only a top of the line guard or replacement bumper and guard will do.

Cheap ones can get bent back and take out the radiator lights, etc.

The one I hat at ~40MPH last year was messy. No damage to the truck, other than a bent skid plate, easily repaired.

I'll be going with stainless. Nothing to chip, peel, or flake off.

I've got everyone beat.

While driving the main drag in Everett, WA once (near Seattle) some moron left an entire V-8 engine block in the right lane one dark evening. I avoided it at the last moment. Some poor woman behind me hit it and it looked like a 20mm round had hit the underside of her car.

The police officer didn't know how to write it up. The poor lady's car was totaled.

...and I hit a concrete high tension utility pole while driving 70MPH in a '77 Celica and walked away without a scratch. (I BROKE the pole)

...we now return to our regularly scheduled topic.

Get a good one with options to mount a winch and lights later on.  I'm still trying to get a few fab guys to build me on that will withstand an 80mph hit with a semi.  I know it can be done cause theirs fucking live thru it. The truckers that is.  I know my truck wont live, but hell I tried.

What year is your truck. let me check my price on a grill for ya.  Think you can install it yourself?
