rs51085 136
So I just received my new bolt carrier from R and R targets and got to thinking. Probably more than half of the parts on a saiga 12 are already being made here in the US. Correct me if I am wrong and feel free to add to the list if I miss anything. Part....................Manufacturer Bolt carrier........... R and R targets Bolt...................... R and R targets. Coming soon Recoil assy...........R and R targets Stock....................Many sources Trigger................. Many sources Trig grd................ Many sources Barrel................... Icc mfg Op rod.................. Several sources? Piston and plug.....Many sources Dust cover............ Maybe mod a regular ak47 cover? Hand guard...........Many sources Things we still need Front Trunion Rear trunion......... I think there maybe some for ak47 that would work. Receiver ejector block Gas block Gas tube Anything I missed? Correct me if I am wrong but that is just 5 parts away from having a complete parts kit. I can think of several manufactures that could make these parts easily. After building several kit guns this to me seems like a very doable venture. With the prices these guns bring now it seems like a nobrainer. It would probably cost at least $1000 if bought from all of these different places but the point is I think we are close. I know I am not the first to mention this but I can't help but dream of a us made s12. Edited January 7, 2015 by rogers

Rear trunnion you can use standard AK trunnions, at least I did in my build Receivers, 80% are US made Ejector block ... some are made but low numbers Gas block and gas tube ... I was under the impression that there were those US made with rails on top. Nothing that I've used, but I think that some are already here. Yup, not worries about making Saiga in US, the main problem is cost/ volume. With bigger volume the cost should go down, but it won't happen overnight. Nailbomb 10,221
Biggest difference in the S-12 receivers is that they are 1.5mm thick. I know AK-builder.com carries them for a standard AK layout.
1911sig 3
It would be great to se production brought to the us even if we had to assemble the parts

Icc mfg + King ArmoryOp rod.................. Several sources? -CGW for beefed up. Tapco known inadequate. Several other standard AK US parts.Piston and plug.....Many sources - see below for plug comment. Dust cover............ Maybe mod a regular ak47 cover? Needs widened at the shoulder area. Possible to stretch, or cut down the middle and weldHand guard...........Many sources Front Trunion I believe CGW made some of these for their AOW version. Probably R&R too. There is another company that did AOW as well Front sight Block -- Dinzag Rear trunion......... Just about any for stamped AKM will work. ~$17-26 many sources Things we still need Receiver- AK builder or Nodak could probably be contracted to do a run for little money.ejector block - Very simple milling. Could be batched out to just about any machine shop.Gas block - Could easily have 1/4 turn interrupted threads plug with autoplug type regulator, or dual stage from scratch rated to 3" Or simply one piece with two sizes of poppets put in with twist lock and individual springs, and no Plug. (provided you use removable tube setup, made possible by Dinzag RSB)Gas tube - If you are building from scratch, a plain tube could do, without the pressed in fluting. G O B 3,516
The pressed in fluting is the op rod guide.
rs51085 136
Nice edit job gun fun. Good additional info. When you listed front site block were you talking about the part the stock gas tube is pressed into.
gunfun 3,931
OOps, I meant rear sight block for dinzag, but he does the best front sight too, IMO.
csspecs 1,987
The pressed in fluting is the op rod guide. That is an easy part to make anyway. The tool works like a collet, the tube goes into the tool over a fluted mandrel and the tool is pressed, closing the collet crimping the flutes in. Then the fluted mandrel is pulled downward over a stripper and then ascends to allow the finished part to be removed and the next to be inserted.

Hey, you know something about stamping metal, you could make the receivers
james lambert 3,059
A person could have flats laser cut in mass from sheet , make some simple dies to bend the flats. CSSPECS could do it in his sleep making the trunions barrel bolt and carriers along with other associated components is another matter. It could be done and most likely will at some point. During the AWB several companies were making AKs here....but from some imported parts
