I am a big space fan, but not with NASA at the switch. Maybe 50 years ago, but not today. We can get much more $bang$ for the buck by having private companies do it instead. Remember, governments may or may not provide a service, but they will always $consume$ a budget. Just me. HB of CJ (old coot)

NASA is probably one of our governments most efficient programs. IIRC last time they ran the numbers, NASA produces $7 worth of technology for every $1 spent there. Their research helps all of us. They are, however, subject to Washington political games and are shameless in pursuing funding. But then, so are private sector researchers.

NASA is the way to go - for the heavy science and 20 year planning. They do BIG really well and they do an EXCELLENT job with probes.

REMEMBER THIS----- there are NO CASH REGISTERS IN SPACE. This money is spent here in the USA.

Getting stuff into orbit is no longer an effort so large it takes a Government Agency to do it. The science was developed by NASA and now Space X is showing us how to do it and make a profit.

We now need NASA to develop the science to get people to the other planets. Them Space X can show us how to do that at a profit; BUT the way must be paved by Government bucks.

Columbus would never have been able to sail to America without Government bucks (Isabella's jewels).
