HB of CJ 1,263
This may also be posted in the General Forum. Anybody know the current BATFE ruling using on a temporary basis multiple different length short barrels on one registered SBR receiver? Example: A Ruger 10-22 registered receiver SBR with a 10" barrel. An 8" inch barrel is temporarily swapped out. Different twist. The ruling right now is a 2008 one that says this is OK. Second example. An AR15 tax stamped SBR lower receiver with multiple short barrel upper receiver groups. All under 16" barrels. Right now (2008) this is OK as long as the swap out is temporary in nature only. Is there a more recent different ruling? I find the NFA site very hard to navigate. This came about because of a very recent SBS transfer at the local Class 3 GS where the BATFE said no and each short barrel length and overall weapon length must be listed individually on the tax stamp. This would be a change from the 2008 ruling where one could have multiple short barrels under 16" and 26" as long as the different length barrels not listed on the SBS tax stamp were temporarily used only. We still do not know what temporary means. HB of CJ (old coot) All US Code Laws And NFA Rules Apply. Is there a more recent or current ruling and what is the number of it? Thank you. Joe**Dirt 21
Once you get a stamp you can do what you want.
HB of CJ 1,263
Yep ... that is what we thought also. But ... a guy wanted to stamp a factory SBS with three different short barrels. SBS. Used to be we would list just one with that overall length. No problem in the past. Now the august BATFE kicked it back, (after 12 weeks to do so) saying EACH barrel length with overall length must be listed on the form. This is something new? Also, FWIW, my letters to the ATF have gone non answered. How long does a reply take? Just wondering. HB of CJ (old coot) Thank you for your answer.
