Wagnikov 186
If I could get detailed pics or the actual parts for the sling loop on front handguard. I hear the screw strips easily. The gun was missing the screw and loop when I bought it. And thoughts or comments appreciated. Ty

gunfun 3,931
That sure looks like the actual stud and ring are the same as what is screwed into most AK stuff including the throwaway stock.
Wagnikov 186
That's kinda what I'm hoping but it's a machine screw and a differnen swivel?
Wagnikov 186
Usually the Russian just use the same old same old. But this model has a lot of specialized pieces
HighPlainsDrifter 466
I don't believe it's a typical part but it can't be to difficult to fab. You'll see... I am not trying to be a dick here either. Posting a pic became a process ever since my desktop shit the bed.
Wagnikov 186
Update hpd?
Spacehog 2,218
Is it a very fine thread? I am betting a VEPR hand guard screw will fit. They use the same spacer and sling mount. I strongly suspect it is M5 X .50. The SVD does indeed use very unique parts. Infact it is a different gun based an the AK architecture. I doubt very highly though they are going to develop a unique screw for the sling mount on the handguard sling mount. Chances are they used something common to other variants to save on cost. The VEPR HG screw thread is unique and not commonly available in the US. Edited February 14, 2015 by Spacehog
Wagnikov 186
They hand guard screw is a standard metric. However the front sight set screw (that continues to allude me) is that super fine m5x 0.5. I think from these conversations, what I need to do is take a standard saiga sling mount, grind off the two indexing nubs on the back side, and find a flat-panhead metric screw.(it is much longer than the one that goes into the bottom of the gas block) The front sight is about to get silver soldered on!!!!! They use some kind of epoxy on the front sight post and the handguard retaining collar, as both are a loos slip fit.
HighPlainsDrifter 466
Update hpd? Sorry guy, it completely slipped my mind. I'll get it done this weekend.
Wagnikov 186
Thank you sir. If your willing, a picture of the disassembled parts would be very helpful. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm excited to finish this thing, and get it cerakoted. Thank you
HighPlainsDrifter 466
A common problem with this hand guard retainer is stripping the flat head bolt. Mine did not last long so the machine bolt is not original. I don't know the size but I can find out if you need me too. I can also just send you one as I have a few extra in my toolbox. Pay particular attention to the extra material at the bottom of the swivel. Not sure what comes on a standard Iz-132. Let me know if you need anything else. Again, apologies for taking so long...
Wagnikov 186
Most excellent. That provides me with everything I need. Should be able to reproduce anything I don't have now. Well worth the wait. Thanks a million HPD.
