Proud new pappy

Recommended Posts

Just picked up my baby today from the stork (ffl) it's prob nothing special, but only a father knows the joy the first time you see that special one you have waited many months to hold. Lol yeah I'm excited. I will say the barrel is thinner than I expected, and the plastic 5rd mags are achillies heel of the vepr. The psl has metal double stacks. The receiver feels like a single stack wasr, the trunnion is way wider than the sheet metal that covers it. It bugs me, so I'll figure out a good fix.

The whole point of a VEPR is that the trunnion is wider, it is an RPK rifle, not an AKM.  If you are going to try and "fix" the wider trunnion you obviously have a lot to learn.  The receiver is nothing like a WASR as it is 50% thicker.

I really hope for your sake, those statements are some kind of bad joke.

I undoubtably have a lot to learn. I understand that I has an RPK style receiver and therefore front trunnion with extra lugs on both sides the bulge out into the receiver to help for torsional stability under heavy fire. I realize that it's manufactured at the Molot plant and all they can manufacture are RPK based guns w bulged style trunnions and receivers. So whether it's an advantage or a disadvantage depends on the application. As RPKs were by design NOT intended to carried, or shot offhand, I feel the extra bulk is really only justified In a 12 gauge shotgun and a 76 2 x 54r rifle. I voted with my money, and not my mouth. That is why I own a VEPR 12 and a VEPR 54R. What I was referring to, which I apparently did so and ineptly, was that when viewed from the underside of the gun, the front trunnion is considerably wider than the hole that is cut in the sheet metal. It looks to me that you could open up the sheet-metal receiver considerably without removing any metal and therefore strength from the front trunnion. If this observation is true then there should be room for a double stack mag. I know this has been attempted before. But I see no real good reason upon first inspection of why this couldn't be done without weakening the integrity of the gun. I admittedly have had to go to my possession less than 12 hours, my presumptions may be premature. But within a week or two of shooting my VEPR 12 I redesigned and built a gas system that allowed me to safely and comfortably shoot 3" slugs. Thank you for your time, I hope this clears up any misconceptions, or disrespect it may have seemed I held against the vepr. I love it. Love means to "nurture to full potential, and protect " this is the true judge and guide for love. Whether it's a wife, Child, classic Corvette, animal/Pet, or a firearm. I feel the VEPR has more unlocked potential so I'm going to bring it up to its full potential, with quality optic and mount a better magazine system. As I bought the model with an improved and more appropriate stock. You won't hear any trash talk for me about the VEPRs. They are heavier and therefore I personally would not choose them for a lighter caliber carbine.
