Japanese reporter beheadings, any insights?

Recommended Posts

Ive seen this in the media from capture, to failed extortion, to execution.

Will this be the beginning of japan in the middle east?  Was it a hoax?  I have no fucking idea.

Im just wondering if you guys know more than me.

No

They don't have a military as far as I know. What they have is more like a national guard.

With China and NK becoming bigger threats to them and the US not being to clear on if they are going to support long standing allies or not. They may change their thoughts.

But they have become more compliant than confrontational. More business than territorial.

Unlikely that it's a hoax. The video has been judged likely authentic by the Japanese minister of defense, and the US DoD has confirmed that Goto is dead.

It's very unlikely Japan will become embroiled in the fighting in the Middle East. Their constitution pretty forcefully prohibits military actions that are not purely defensive. Without a constitutional amendment, Japan will almost assuredly not be sending combat troops to the Middle East. They will probably continue their humanitarian efforts in the region.

It's too bad. If the Japanese had a military of any sorts they could turn loose a few thousand soldiers, round up some of those IS fuckers and show them how to really behead. They can rekindle the samurai by letting them test out their new blades on these new age criminals like they did in the old days of bushido.

The Japanese "not a military" is pretty well equipped:

Land forces

Naval forces

Air forces

For not having a military, they sure have a decent amount of equipment and troops. They could go whip some Hadji ass if they wanted to. Maybe they will, now, instead of standing idly by while these tango assholes burn the world down.

The perspective of few buddies I know that still live there say Japan has been mentally debating/preparing for a war within 10 to 20 years with China.  There have been calls last couple of years for altering the constitution by politicians, etc.  Doubt anything will be done about the beheadings.

The land of Heiwa (peace) may be coming to an end.

No offense only defense. Too many rules set by themselves and others, more than likely to avoid the appearance of being the aggressor as they were prior to WWII. I'm still hoping somehow, somebody gets a location on these guys and introduces them to a laser guided suppository.

It is not a matter of capability but of will.

Unless a nation is maintaining an empire and the endless procession of wars required for such a large military is absolutely without justification.

Perhaps that is why the founders warned us off of both standing armies and empire building.

Had the Japanese the will to revenge themselves they could, just that simple.

Japan's PM "vowed revenge" against ISIS which is pretty much unheard of from the Japanese since, oh I don't know, before WWII. I don't know what it actually means, but Japan has been tooling up in recent years under threat of the Chinese - for example, some here probably know that Japan's latest "helicopter destroyer" is, for example, pretty obviously designed to be quickly retrofitted to accommodate carrier-based jets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izumo-class_helicopter_destroyer

If nothing else it could just mean increased assistance from the Japanese in the case that Indonesia and Malaysia become Islamic problem areas.

Yep! That's a carrier. A STOL/VTOL carrier, but still a carrier. Can you say F35?

The only insight I have gained through all the beheadings is, "If you are a journalist, you might want to leave the camera at home in lieu of a rifle and a squad of well trained 'buddies' to back you up".... Unless that is you want to make your mark on the world and your name known by having your head separated from your body on YouTube.
