rbthntr64 21
How does the original come off the trunion? It looks like it is soldered on.
dinzag 31
Nope. It is sandwiched between the gas block and trunnion. You can see the part of the rear end of the gas tube where it locks in the trunnion - there's a tab pointing to the rear of the gun. (tongue & groove if you will) Edited to add: You have to press the gas block off or forward enough for the tube to come out. Edited April 11, 2006 by dinzag
rbthntr64 21
Ok, thanks. I have the one with the 2 position gas block. I am going to make the disc and a new gas piston to comply with 922r. Will probably order the bulgy RSH and give it a try also. Look at Gunco.net thread for a cool US remake of the yugo M70 PG. http://www.gunco.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26115 This is what I am going to use. It has a nice thumb rest on the left side. rbthntr64 21
I am working with the RPK stuff. I will let everyone know every hitch. So far the ears on the trunion are too narrow fro the RSB, and the AK-74 gasblock is too small for the barrel. I am looking for another gasblock that has enough meat to open to .629. For now I am going with the NATO length US Synthetic butstock and will switch to the composite Russian folder as soon as I can gather all the pieces. Any input DZ?
rbthntr64 21
Well got some time in today on the Saiga. The RPK rear site base needed to have .025 removed on each side where it goes into the trunion ears, as well the trunion also required this on each ear for a total of .100 material removed. The gas block was very difficult lining up. when I pressed it on, I went too far and the B$(%& wouldn't come back off. At this point I realized I had forgotten the lower handguard retainer, so I think the gasblock is going to get sacrficed so I can get the retainer installed. I will just get another from K-mart. Us butstock from JoeKen via Ak-Builder, US pistol grip from Gunco member, Tapco HTD from Ak-Builder, Scratch US gas piston, Scratch US barrel attachment. Pin retainer from Red Star Arms via AK-Builder. I have the grip reinforcement plate from Ak-builder installed and will incorperate the folder as soon as I get all the bits. Enjoy! Cobra 76 two 2,677
Hey! Looikn' good man! That RSB job is a bitch ain't it lol. My second one went a lot easier once I knew where to cut without going too far LOL on forgetting the GB! Sorry, you're not the only one who does that kind of shit sometimes...Ever put a new power cord on a tool or a new end on a cord and forget to put the sleeve on before connecting all the wires? Thought so, lol. She looks great dude! Now we need to get you some real mags and a AK FSB to ream out. I used a Bulgie on mine. Hope you can find the hardware for your Russian folder. Try putting up a WTB on here and on some of the other AK oriented sites.

Aethelbert 1
That is one great work-in-progress! If you and some of the others keep this up, you're gonna sorely tempt me to have more done to my .410. Again, great work!
dinzag 31
O.K. Aethelbert - here's another! My buddy's S-410 we did last night. His is a 2003 model same as mine, but it's got a longer barrel. We're waiting on parts to do the RSB/Upper HG & FSB. His will be an RPK when it's all said & done - just like his RPKS-20 in my sig line. We plan on using an AKM RSB on it as it fits right on. Only mod is welding it to the barrel. Been there & done that. This one we welded on the triggerguard & filled the old axis holes closed. AMD HG retainer via TheGunHustler.
Cobra 76 two 2,677
There ya go! Ya'll keep it up with the gun porn. I'm lookin forward to getting Aethelbert's 410 back in the Frankenlab for some more cool mods and I'm always itching to find another Saiga to convert. It's an addiction and I'm running out of Saigas that are still unconverted. Keep us updated on your progress rbthntr64. Lookin good bro!

dinzag 31
Here's some updated pics... Pistonring8 bead-blasted all my Saiga carriers and they all turned out beautiful! Thanks again man! You ROCK!!!! I also machined out the I.D. of an AK-74 brake to slip over the factory thread protectors and chokes. They lock on with set screws. I ran 50 rounds through it today to make sure the shot cup doesn't contact it. Good to go! -a note on the brake- Ideally you would want to weld the brake to a choke and then use an idexing pin on the FSB. However, you want to make sure the choke is cranked down tight and then properly index the brake. This is good enough for now. The brake will slip over the long & short chokes and thread protectors. I will be posting a thread with the brakes & chokes for sale soon. Need some lathe time to crank a few out. Thanks for looking!
inparidel 4
I refinished the furniture in red. I wanted blood red, but it came out a touch lighter. I love it! RIT scarlet dye dissolved in alcohol - rubbed in, then 5 coats of oil, then two coats of semi-gloss polyurethane. Beautiful work! Did the gun come with the rear sight base leaf setup, or did you add that?
dinzag 31
Thanks again man! Nope - I added it. That one was off my Saiga 7.62x39. (both FSB & RSB)

dinzag 31
Nice Job! Where did you get the furniture for that? Thanks man! The pistol grip is a hungarian that I reshaped the bottom. The lam buttstock is a romanian AKM. The lam upper & lower hg's are from the gunshow.
