gunfun 3,931
I think this covers it nicely: http://smile.amazon.com/Intellectuals-Paul-Johnson/dp/1470887568/ref=smi_www_rco2_go_smi_2053972162?ie=UTF8&%252AVersion%252A=1&%252Aentries%252A=0 Roughly, an intellectual is a person who thinks he can re-imagine society and philosophy better than people have before, and who is able to get other people to believe him. gunfun 3,931
Obama doesn't fit Johnson's definition, because he is using the ideas of others.
magsite20 1,664
an intellectual is someone who can hear the William Tell Overture and doesn't think of the Lone Ranger
patriot 7,197
Intellectual: A person who has been educated beyond his intelligence. You have intellectual confused with pseudo-intellectual. An idiot who has memorized bits and pieces for the sole purpose of appearing intelligent, often using those pieces incorrectly.

Rhodes1968 1,638
Intellectual is merely a description of a trait or habit. It is no different than being stubborn, or moody, or athletic, or spiritual, or whatever... in and of itself. None are either good or evil without context, ALL have a place in a healthy human. George Washington was an intellectual, he was also moody, stubborn, athletic, and spiritual. As was Jefferson, Adams, Franklin for crying out loud. George Patton was a HELL of an intellectual. A trait is only a tool of character yet traits form character. So choose well, yes? A good mind may help a person make the right call, yes? Intellectualism, the desire to build the mind, is a very desired trait, ask an honest female how desirable of a mate an intelligent man is to the better portion of the female gender, that aint for nothing guys. Being an ass with granted meaningless letters behind ones name is just being an ass. This kind of shit is more fitting of the Khmer Rouge than the last liberty loving Americans left to the world. That is one fucking game I aint playing.
Dad2142Dad 6,559
How many intellectuals does it take to screw in a light bulb?
patriot 7,197
Well, let's see... One to create the light bulb...One to steal the idea, patent it and sell it and get rich, one to create a better alternative a century later. To change it? None. Anyone can do it.
