"A big no-no", or do you mean not politically correct?  It might be false bravado or unthinking explosion of thought but unless or until action comes from the words, it is still protected speech under our great constitution.  The first amendment is only really needed when the thoughts expressed grate on someone else -- no matter who that someone else is.  Freedom of speech baby!

I was under the impression that the "Patriot Act" changed all that.

And that Terroristic threats, even out of context ones , can most certainly land you in deep water.

Especially a threat on a high profile senator.

The statements are not posed as actual threats or rising to the level of assault, they are theoretical or non plausible.

And there is also who you're or how you're thought of.

Ted IS that crazy rightwing whackjob who is expected to make outlandish statements/claims. And he has the money & political connections to protect him.

Its not what you say, its how you say it.

Its not who youre, its who you know.

Uncle Ted will be fine, they only use the patriot act part on poor white trash

Heh more right than we would like.

Besides the way that sucker is written it means whatever they say it means and that aint an accident.

I keep hoping it will not be renewed but there is something in it for every brand of tyrant so not putting money on that.

He's a public figure so they have to be careful demoning him away. Only way they could crack down on him the same way they'd do to normal people is if they found a body double and made it seem he went the full Dennis Quaid.
