I have access to ungraded black walnut, cured over 30 years, in slabs. PM me if you're interested.

I'm thinking gun stocks, pistol grips, Full Kentucky Rifle stocks, etc. Furniture too.

If there's enough interest, we'll see what we can do. Not sure on pricing at this point.

Smaller slabs like for stocks, grips, etc. can be shipped. Full boards are pick up by appointment only in Northern MD.

Is this about just buying the boards or are you offering services in turning that wood into gun stocks and grips?

Just slabs for you to do whatever you want with.

Rough size MINIMUM

7"W x 32"L x 2 1/4"(approx.) thick. I have to double check thickness. UNGRADED for $50 plus shipping and paypal.

Higher grades may be available, but will be priced accordingly.

If you'd want more than just a slab, I have a relationship with a top quality shop (CRS) that can use the slab to duplicate the profile of your existing stock. The final finishing would be done by YOU. There is a long lead time for this work. I waited about a year to get mine back so I could do the final fit and finish on my stock.

This is all in the preliminary stages now, gauging interest.

JDeko, Here's what you can do if you've got the skill and patience to re-stock one of your guns:

I had my stockmaker rough out the wood for me. All final fitting/finishing was done by me.

I never get tired of seeing that thread Patriot. If these slabs are anything close to the one in your thread......

That thread makes me want to get back into the shop!

The slab in my thread is English walnut. I have access to a few more blanks of that old-growth English walnut (plain, not high-figure) at $100 per blank, plus shipping. Size appropriate to cut out a buttstock and forend.

....and thanks for the compliments.

Every once in awhile, you do something that comes out WAY above your normal abilities. That was mine. I love that old shotgun! It'll still bruise your shoulder though, even at 11 pounds.

I might have to talk you up on that rough stock deal once I get settled in [so probably after this thread is dead] but its good to come across someone with connects to someone who can make wood gun parts IWD doesn't offer.

There are other makers depending on what you want.

That is actually pretty amusing! XD

I meant more that I think stocks look better when the top is a straight line and the curved/angled part is on the bottom. If you took your very humorous image and dropped the angle of the stock to be parallel to the receiver and dust cover I think that would look pretty awesome.

That true inverted stock would help people wanting to fire Rambo-style from their hip though... Maybe...

This has gotten a fair amount of interest, and here's some more info:

Rough size MINIMUM

7"W x 32"L x 2 1/4"(approx.) thick. I have to double check thickness.

UNGRADED for $50 plus shipping and paypal.

Longer lengths/widths available. PM what you're looking for.

Higher grades may be available, but will be priced accordingly.

For those near Northern Maryland, pickup can be arranged. (Cash money only in these cases.)

  • 3 weeks later...

This is moving slower than I expected. The supplier has had some other things take priority. He's interested, so we'll just have to hang in there until he gets time. At the price, I'm willing to wait a bit.

He's not too keen on grading, so it may be luck of the draw.

Patriot, hopefully I speak for others as well, but I don't need an official grading of the walnut. I think most of us would just like to see a couple pics of representative slabs that he is selling for $X.xx. I am very interested, but I won't order until I see a picture of what I am buying. Hope you understand where I am coming from.

UPDATE:

I spoke with the supplier and he shut it down. The deal is off for now. It turns out thickness is not what we thought, and the entire lot needs a thorough inspection as to dimensions and overall quality.

Most, if not all is rough cut to 3/4", which would come out to about 1/2" - 5/8" after it's planed down. Pretty useless for most things, unless it's glued up into a thicker plank.

Sorry, guys...

If I run across another deal I'll let you know.

Thanks for the interest, and I'm sorry it didn't work out. I wanted some too.
