ChileRelleno 7,071
Some pics from the Chanute Air Museum in Rantoul, IL today.I've been to this airport several times over the years for the World Free Fall Convention, and enjoyed this Air Museum.Shame is that due to lack of funding it is closing it's doors in December. This is the airport, the museum is hidden behind my midsection. A7 Corsair F15 Eagle The last XB-47 bomber in existence, of course there were only two made. This was the early experimental predecessor to the B-47 Stratojet. F100 Super Sabre F86 Sabre This B24 Mitchell was actually on the Doolittle Tokyo Raid. It is still in the restoration process. P51H-Mustang
ChileRelleno 7,071
Staying in the middle of Illinois Amish land, thats Arthur, Il, with my Mom/StepDad, haven't seen them in a few years. Kids are loving it, as are the Grands. My little sister and BiL are fun to hang out with. Amish homecooked dinner with an Amish family, buggy rides & farm tours, sitting on the front porch listening toi the clip, clop, clip, clop of the buggies. Great small town atmosphere, great shopping for the wife in other towns. And best of all, no work for me, and I've made my wife do all the driving. Concert tomorrow night in Indianapolis, my wife is dragging me to see an old 80/90s hair band, Europe. Tuesday is off to St. Louis and the Arch. Home on Wednesday and then we do another Concert at the Wharf on Fri, Boston & Kansas. Life isn't half bad sometimes. Edited April 26, 2015 by ChileRelleno
Tundra1 391
I'm a couple hours NW of Aurthur. My wife makes a trip once in a while to buy bulk spices from Beachy's when she's shopping in Tuscola. Didn't know Europe still toured! Love me some 80's hair bands.
Spacehog 2,218
Sounds like a great vacation Chile. Especially the wife doing the driving! Hope you can unwind, and enjoy the break. I do have one question though that I have been trying to figure out...how in the world did you get to those handles in the first pic?? I assume there is some kinda hatch that I can't see. I know you didn't Fred Flintsone it as the plane was taking off.
kevinfreel 215
I'm pretty sure the handles might be on the top of the plane, and the plane is upside down... not 100 percent sure on that though
YOT 3,743
Sure sounds better than my day of stacking brush (a lot of brush) and some yard work so I can mow my lawn. Enjoy your vacation. It sounds like you are.
Spartacus 1,619
Chile, your post had me doing searches on "sky diving" and I ended up clicking on this video somehow.... http://iloveskydiving.org/view/videos/the-naked-news-goes-skydiving/

Sit in the front cockpit, stand up and grab the handles on the top wing, the pilot loops & rolls inverted and you find yourself hanging under the inverted biplane. Pilot takes pic from camera mounted on vertical stabilizer.

Yep, my wife knows Beachys and the Tanger outlet center very well. Lol, this will be the first time we don't pull a Uhaul back full of Amish oak furniture. My wife is a Hair Band freak, never got to see Europe back in the day. They haven't been in the USA in 10 years, needless to say she is thrilled.

It's one of those classic situations where you stare at something for a long time trying to find a solution and someone walks by takes one look and states the simple solution that you missed looking for something more complicated. ChileRelleno 7,071
Last weekend of my vacation, back home in Mobile, AL. Wife and I, and a friend or hers, went down to Orange Beach, AL for the Boston/Kansas concert at The Wharf. We had dinner at The Original Oyster House, a local seafood joint with pretty good food. Took an after dinner walk on the Gulf State Pier (my favorite fishing pier). Stopped and talked to several regulars that I know as we enjoyed the beautiful evening and view from the pier. Not much happening in the way of fish till we got to the end of the pier, where a decent bite on the Spanish was in progress. We watched several come over the railing and then moseyed back down the pier Did a little swapping for a twice used rod, a Crowder Tideline, 7'6", 10-20#, 1/4-1oz, MH, they retail for $120. He wanted $80. for it, I had a $100. Bass Pro giftcard that I got free with my Choice Reward hotel points. So he was very happy and I had a free rod, win/win. I'll be heading back down to pier today to fish, so I'll get a chance to try it out. Yawn... I normally leave for the pier in about another 1.5-2hrs... Do I grab a few hours or stay up all night & day? We headed over to The Wharf and enjoyed a great show.Kansas was pretty good, but their sound was a bit off, kind'a muffled with too much bass. They managed to get it sounding a bit better as their set continued.Boston came on and their sound was dang near perfect, go figure, Tom Scholz is a perfectionist.WOW, What a Show! Fantastic as always.Nose bleed bleachers seats, crap pic with my little camera, its magnification isn't great, but you get the point.
