JESS1344 June 08, 2015, 01:14 pm US hits paydirt with ISIS raid By Ben Kamisar 2 Comments American intelligence officials have uncovered a trove of at least four terabytes of data that sheds light into the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria's operations, according to The New York Times. “I’ll just say from that raid we’re learning quite a bit that we did not know before,” a senior State Department official told The Times. “Every single day the picture becomes clearer of what this organization is, how sophisticated it is, how global it is and how networked it is.” The information details how the group's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, meets with his leadership team at the ISIS headquarters in Raqqa, Syria. Before those meetings, all of his leaders, known as emirs, must leave behind any type of electronic device in order to ensure that American intelligence officials are not tracking them to al-Bagdhadi. The data also reportedly includes information about how some of the leaders use their wives as messengers. The information stems from a May raid where American forces obtained laptops, cellphones more materials used by the Islamic State, according to The Times. The report also says that the find allowed them to carry out an airstrike that Americans believe killed ISIS leader Abu Hamid. The news comes as the administration tries to reverse recent gains by the terrorist group. ISIS forces pushed into Ramadi, a strategically important city less than 100 miles from Baghdad, last month. President Obama told reporters in Germany on Monday that the international coalition fighting ISIS does not "have a complete strategy," but said that the Iraqi government needs to step up.
