csspecs 1,987
Just wanted to alert anyone with a Saiga .308 We are dropping Black Oxide finish from our product line up. I have about 150 Saiga .308 20 round mags with this finish. I'm dropping the price to $31 each. With an extra $1 off if you buy 5 or more. http://stores.csspecs.com/saiga-308-20rd/
gunfun 3,931
What is your finish going to be from now on?
csspecs 1,987
Black Nitride. It is what has been used on the Saiga 12, Vepr 12 and M77 mags since we started those lines. Its easier to just run one finish and not have people stalling on ordering trying to think of which is best.
TxAgSaiga1979 16
Thanks for letting us know! I do like the black oxide because it is such a perfect match for the factory finish!
gunfun 3,931
Their nitride finish is superb.
csspecs 1,987
I prefer the Nitride as it is a gas chamber process and does not leave much residues between the layers. Black oxide have to be washed a few times to clean the residue and even still some will flash out months later. The switch is mostly to condense the product listings and make the packing station a little less baffling. If I want to have a vacation I need to get this less confusing, last time I was gone I ended up talking the person through it to get the right product.. And back then I had fewer products and one quarter the order volume. So I'm reducing the product variations a little and eliminating the few dead products. I just want to point out that there is a bulk discount as well now. If you buy 5 or more Its $1 off, if you buy 8 or more it is $3 off. I want to say this is the cheapest they have been. We do have a small pile of those 7 round mags coming. Odds are they are going to be mixed finishes on the parts, it made more sense to finish them than throw away the parts. We made a big restock batch of the Saiga .308 magazines. The tooling is mothballed (actually grease packed), we documented everything since I know I won't remember how to make them if/when we make another run in 3+ years. Odds since the imports stopped that we will not need to make another run as the market is fairly saturated.
gunfun 3,931
Good thinking, but I hope the imports come back and make your tooling useful again.
csspecs 1,987
Yeah. But even before the sanctions, sales on Saiga .308 magazines had really slacked off, not enough imports and too many players in the market. Promag, SGM, Unita... I was going to just sell off what we had, but I found five buckets full of blanks, feed lips, front lugs all made back in the bannic. So we made them while waiting on the M77 batch two blanks to arrive. They will sell eventually, and if another bannic happens again I'll have something else to sell. The Saiga .308 and Saiga 20 gauge are being eyed for retirement, both are troublesome to make.. The Saiga 100 .308 mag is not going to be produced again, sales are sluggish beyond compare. Mullet Man 2,114
Did you just say more time for vepr 54r mags? I swear that's what I just read.
Forge 11
Isn't black oxide the same as bluing without the polish? I just picked up a second hand 308 Saiga and want to get a couple of your magazines. I know nitriding is superior but the price is tempting on the oxides. Those are moving toward the front of the line.. I have a few simple builds that I need to place into the schedule, but the 54R is supposed to be the next body design we work on. I know nitriding is superior but the price is tempting on the oxides. For the most part yes. Old firearms used slow rust bluing, but everything new is black oxide. The company we used mostly did fasteners and automotive parts. The Nitride shop we use does a LOT of rifle barrels, like tens of thousands of rifle barrels a month, they also do a lot of brake rotors and drums but at a different plant. The magazines are very functional with the black oxide finish.. I'm just clearing them out as they are slow moving. I will continue to drop the price a little at a time until they are gone. It does not take many people to clear out a sale product.

Forge 11
Received two of the black oxide 20 rounders today. These are quality heavy duty magazines! I am very pleased with this purchase and can't wait to test them out!
