Well I inherited a few guns from my papaw that died a few years back. He had an extensive collection of guns to say the least. I was fortunate enough to get three of them. Most of them went to other family members, but here's what I was left. I must say that I'm pretty grateful to be given anything.

These will be passed down once I'm gone.

The bolt gun came from Wards, and is a Sako l57 in .308, and we know what the "evil" looking gun is, and the pump is a Remington 870 special field. I look forward to sending some rounds down range next weekend.

Nice recovery.

My dad had a very good friend that died of cancer about 10 years back. He had an extensive collection of misurp, mostly WWII arms - a whole table full of Lugers and P38s, multiple K43s, Garands, Enfields, Mausers, etc. Whole room full. I saw his collection once, it was huge.

He wanted my dad to have all of it, even the safe. Problem was he was a weird guy and didn't "believe" in wills, and so he left his girlfriend to handle things as he passed.

Come time to go down to his house to collect the guns he wanted my dad to have, my dad drove 4 hours from his house to Oregon with his trailer in tow, expecting to take the safe and all of the guns. He showed up and found they had all been sold by the girlfriend, even the safe. Some FFL that knew what he had swooped in and gave her a lowball offer, she took it and he had several guys haul everything away.

My dad said something to the effect of, it was the closest he ever came to punching a woman. His friend had warned him about her but he didn't quite get what he was saying at the time.

All that was left was a Norinco Tokarev that she had forgotten to sell.

That blows mancat. I'm a firm believer in a will. I prolly would have wanted to punched her. My papaw had a small room full. I suspect most of them went to my uncle. Hard to say. As long as they stay in the family I don't care at all. It's when people start selling them off adapt that pisses me off!

Put it this way, I wish I could have picked 3! He had some very collectable weapons. it's all good. He'll still live through the barrels of these with his reloads! Well only some. I'm saving most of them for the right time.

Your story almost made me cry Mancat. There is a WWII survivor here in town that has a very similar collection to what you described. Brought back most of it himself from what I understand. The one time I was allowed in "the room" I remember feeling like I was in the round weapons room from Highlander. Thank God his family is smart enough to realize what he has.

Some years ago, I was in Tellico Plains TN. The town museum has an incredible collection of mainly WWII guns that was donated by a local collector. I have never seen that many Johnsons in one collection! This seems to be the best way to share a fabulos collection, put it in a museum in your home town for everyone to enjoy. The down side is that they no longer get shot. Maybe leave a stipulation in your will that family get to shoot some of them on certain specified occasions?

I've been there GOB. I know the man that runs it. They still function. Great guns from a great collection. They got them from a very generous local cat.

Put it this way, there's enough MP40s to arm an entire Waffen SS unit.

Love that little town, great people and breath taking scenery!  Drove over Star Mtn. in the Grand Cherokee- THAT'S what Jeeps are for!

Nearly moved there, but priorities change.

Driving the Tail of the Dragon and seeing that museum should be on everyone's bucket list!
