When the AUG was introduced over 40 years ago, it was one of the most innovative rifles the world had ever seen, and some think it still is. In the AR world, gas piston systems are all the rage because they run cleaner and cooler. Quickly interchangeable barrels systems for the AR are available on only a very few very expensive AR’s. If you want an AR with less than an overall length of 30”, its SBR/$200 tax stamp time, because you have use asignificantly shorter barrel. Whether you’re running a gas or piston system AR, you still have to clean the locking lugs on the barrel regularly -which is almost impossible to do thoroughly on a AR.

The AUG breaks down completely without tools into 6 component groups, and every nook and cranny can be easily accessed for proper cleaning and maintenance. Changing barrel lengths, or replacing a worn out barrel takes less than 60 seconds. A 16” barreled AUG measures 28.25”, which is shorter than many NFA regulated AR SBR’s, and offers more velocity.
