gibsonsg05 7
First off, hello to all. I've always been an AK guy and I've owned various AKs including a Catamount Fury II shotgun, but this week I purchased my first Saiga 12. This is an IZ109T that I purchased for $900 online. This shotgun was factory converted and is currently 100% stock. I won't get a chance to shoot it until next week. I purchased a few SGM mags as well as an MD20 drum and Promag drum. My question is this, what are some things I can do to increase reliability? I'd like to be able to shoot 2-3/4" Buck, Slugs, and hopefully birdshot. I know that polishing the internals will slick up the action but I'd like to make sure the shotgun functions properly before I void my warranty. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
forsaken352 235
You say you've not shot it yet? Don't do anything to it until you know for certain it won't run the loads you wish to use. Go to the range, put the gas to setting "1", see if it'll run, and go from there.
Mullet Man 2,114
Nice shotty. Hate to break it to ya but it's not a "factory converted" gun. See those rivets/bolts/holes/whatever they are above the pistol grip? Dead give away that it was an imported sporterized 109, converted by someone here in the States. Where'd ya get it? You want sooper dooper reliability? Get rid of those SGM mags and buy CSS steel mags instead.
evlblkwpnz 3,418
Don't forget to try gas setting #2 if it does not eject reliably on setting #1.
gibsonsg05 7
By factory converted, I meant converted by RWC. I know they can't import them like that. I'll have to check out the CSS mags, didn't realize they made steel mags for AKs.

Well worth the little extra bit of money over other plastic non reinforced US made mags on the market. http://stores.csspecs.com/saiga-12-gauge/
gibsonsg05 7
Well, I had some time to run to the range today and put about 30 or so rounds of buckshot through it and it ran great. I used my 12rnd, 10rnd, and 8rnd (chopped from a 12) SGM mags. I ran it on the #1 setting. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
forsaken352 235
Very nice. Had a feeling it'd run. Enjoy it, they are loads of fun. Also, if you ever get tired of spending a fortune on ammunition and try using bulk pack bird loads, and it doesn't want to work on either setting, the Tac47 Autoplug worked for me. Mine would run Federal #8 on factory plug setting 2, but not Winchester #8, and the Autoplug made them run.
gibsonsg05 7
I have a bunch of the cheap Federal birdshot from wally world, but the indoor range only allows buck and slugs. Here's a quick video!!! https://youtu.be/fLSdRUOsbaA
sobrenegade 795
Gibson, that looked good. I wish you lots of future fun. It didn't seem to exhibit as much recoil as mine. Welcome.
storm6490 2,768
My question is this, what are some things I can do to increase reliability? Hello, congrats on your new shotgun. They fucking rule. To increase the reliability of this weapon, simply shoot the shit out of it. After that, clean it and shoot it some more. It ages like a fine wine and your ability to operate it properly from use will also increase the reliability of the weapon by knowing how it feels and what it likes to fire.
