Silver is under $15 an oz. Great buy opportunity.

I think silver will be worth 100oz tommorrow. No. Wait. 3 an ounce. It's not worth anything! Gold should be a billion dollars an ounce. It's the only stable currency after all. No wait. It's overpric

This is not a dip, it's a disaster.   Dow opened down & quickly fell 1,089.42 points. That's not a typo, 1,089.42 Only barely did it manage to close above the October 2014 low (15,855), and tha

Silver is about to take a shit. Saturated market after fools ran in at 20 up to 50. Gold is down too but still stupid. Silver should be at 10.

Buy at ten or just keep buying. Junk silver is shit. If you can get minted canadian, austrian and other foreign minted silver you not only have the spot price, you have a known mint premium, have numismatic gains and sometimes get lucky and your coin doubles spot.

Junk silver and U.S. minted coins with a dollar value can be confiscated within the United States of America under order.

A Canadian Maple Leaf is a foreign currency with a given value, so is a Austrian philharmonic. Our Gov. cannot call in foreign currencies like they did to us in the past.

The commies are so bad that I expected them to call in all the pennies to get the copper but then considered it would be way too much work for a pinko.

The spot price may fall some more. Maybe down to $10. Maybe not.

But if the spot falls any more the supply of physical silver is going to be stressed, especially in the 1oz size. We're likely to see the dealers bumping their premiums again like last time.

I'm not concerned about foreign vs domestic minted, or any possible numismatic value. I care about the metal. I buy 1oz rounds, the cheapest I can find. What's on the front and back is irrelevant as long as it says One Troy Ounce .999 Silver.

Pre-82 pennies are the next silver quarters

Silver will hit $4 and ounce, again.

Try nickels!  Their melt is around $0.04 each depending on nickel and copper.  Fed's were looking at a new alloy, but haven't heard anything yet.  Save the old Jeffersons, but also keep the newer "zombie" nickels. (new Jefferson pic looks like a zombie in the right light)

Problem is everything's grinding to a halt, so metals are glutting.  Shits a sliding down the chute!

Junk street silver in old small amounts/value (speel chzk not working ... again)  has very little or no collect ability, has known apparent real value, smaller more usable denominations and recognizability in the silver content value, usually will not ever be counterfeited, (why?) and has never been seized by the US government.  New minted 1 oz US and foreign coins can and have been counterfeited and can carry a big premium and may have a paper trail.  Pluses and minuses for each.  HB

Wait. This thread did degenerate into spewing poor ideas about the precious metal platform right ? I hate to come to a party late...

I sold at $22 last year. Not disappointed. I made good money, and when it drops more I'll buy again. I bought at $15 in 2010 and sold at $45 in 2011. That paid the taxes.

It's never too late for degeneration.  That's what the internet is for!

All threads degenerate into poor ideas.  Most of em start out that way.  (I do not exclude my own from this observation.)

I travel the world with gold and silver. The only bullion I was ever able to trade for cash in a different country while traveling was Pamp Suisse with a holographic assay attached to it. Jewelers and exchange shops would gladly trade cash for US, Austrian, British and Canadian minted metals with a given dollar or euro ammount. It's pretty easy to fake a loaf of engelhard or copy a silver round from the sunshine mint in Idaho. It's a certain pedigree the coin has that increaces it's liquidity. Few know about junk silver over here and if the shit hit the fan, they would feel safer with a canadian maple or an american liberty. Foreigners don't even know that our coins were silver at one time. People over here know very little about it. I know a lot of guys who love junk silver for prepping but you must consider the presentation and how the coin will be verified. Junk silver will be discounted heavily compared to an ounce of beautifully designed .9999 pure canadian with the queen of england on it and 5 dollars canadian standing behind it.

Good luck and be careful buying rounds. There are a shit ton of chinese copies out there. You never know untill you flip it in the air and hear that awesome sound of silver ringing.

The buffalo rounds have been copied along with other art bars and "minted" rounds but very rarely will you ever encounter a counterfeit maple, liberty, philharmonic, etc with a monetary value as you will be hunted down by very spooky men for producing just one coin. Even when the Chinese made something even close to a walking liberty on ebay, the US and the Chinese government came down hard on the counterfeit operation and they will never see the light of day again. There are guns and bombs backing truly minted coins, I do not consider rounds minted, just produced.

Counterfeits that started to pop up during the silver rush..... Still a few out there.. http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/coin-dealer-flips-the-game-on-counterfeiter/Content?oid=3732550

Most of the counterfeits that are out there that could pass are worth more as collectables than the silver will ever be.

I only buy from very reputable dealers. I may pay a few cents more premium but I know I'm getting real metal.

So I guess I should say I buy the cheapest I can find from a select list of dealers.

One must a good understanding with your local dealer.  We go back 25 years.  Cash works.  Physical possession.  But understand junk silver is only 90%.  Another coins that may work is the smaller Kugerrands. (sp)  The concern with gold coins is trying to get a good preminum (sp) buying the small ones like one tenth and one quarter ounce.  Anyhow, out here in SW OR USA, small size USA junk silver coins already have a following.  You see it at the gun shows and barter fairs.  Very nice if you bought right years ago.

I would acknowledge the possibility that PM's may still go down some more but I dont think you'll lose too much making purchases before it gets to the absolute bottom.  The rebound is going to shoot pass you either way I believe.  No sense being greedy & waiting and then have the run start while you're off fishing in the boonies rolleyes.gif

I dont think the Gov't will ever try to pull in privately held silver. Its way too bulky/heavy to handle in comparison to its value.

They did issue a call for gold but Ive never really heard from people who actually gave it back?  Also, I believe there was a "loophole?" saying you could keep personal jewelry.  I think one of those nice western belts with the conchos would look good replaced by Krugerrands!

Silver is also mostly still an industrial metal.  Many times more used there than in coins.  During WW2 the military Manhattan Project "borrowed" over 3000+ TONS of silver to use as shielding during workup of the various nuclear reactors to make the A bomb.  After they were through with it, they returned it to the Treasury Department.  Only a few ounces were lost.  Wow.

Another silly worthless story about Gold.  If memory serves, (probably wrong) there was an old TV "Bonaza" western series episode where Ben Cartwright carried on his person $5000 bucks in gold to go buy a prized bull down by San Francisco.  It weighed about 20 pounds at the time and was concealed in a big money belt/girdle/vest.  All the boys went with him to ride shotgun.

I bought 60 oz which was all that I had to spare.  The "powers" want to keep metal prices low and they've been doing a good job of that, so they may push it down again.  If so I'll just buy more.

Still a good buy imo.  Shop around and you can get under a dollar premium.

My policy is to not let my income sit in fiat money and lose value.  I pay my bills and then I convert whatever is left into hard assets.
