narrowed it down to two. Streamlight TLR-1 HL or surefire x300 ultra. does any one know how many picatinny rail spaces each light takes up.

i want to purchase the rail size that matches the light. sounds kinda picky just want a low profile look. also dont want to go to small. i couldn't find any info on surefires site. the x300 is probably the one i'm going with for my rifle. thanks...

Got the X300 Ultra on my Glock 19. It attaches using a single rail slot, but if you're looking for how many it blocks, then it depends. If you're like me, I'd want it as far forward on the rail to reduce the shadow effect from the rifle, in which case I count 5. I don't think anybody would mount it in a different manner, but the entire length of the light takes up 11 slots.

I have no experience with the Streamlight, but let me tell you about the Surefire... Bright as hell. At night, I can shine from one end of our 6 acres to the other, and almost turn it into daylight. You'd have no problem seeing a person or most animals. Against my better judgement, I've shined myself with it, just to know what it's like. Left a circle in my eyes for the better part of 10-15min. or so. If you look at your hand, then shine your hand, it'll blind you for a moment. I am very pleased with it, especially for its size.

If you do end up purchasing one, I suggest spending another $20 on a surplus of batteries like I did. The ones that came with it died rather quickly, and I'm on the second set still going strong. Just remember, if it's for a defense weapon, refrain from using it as a normal flashlight as much as possible. Here's the batteries I got for mine:

5 slots is what im looking for. i want the key mod rail to be big enough to cover the locking surface of the light but not stick out either side to much. this is great info. thanks alot... i already have a couple of flash lights that take cr 123 so i have some in stock. your right you need to have some on hand...

I can give you whatever ya want on the TLRs when I get home tomorrow.

Maybe someone else will chime in before then.

thanks chile. just looking to see total notches the light mount takes up "space wise" on the picatinny rail...

I have a couple of Streamlights.  I have them mounted on 2 slot M-lock rails and the mount almost covers the whole rail.

r u talking about 2 m-lock slots or 2 picatinny slots.

nice gun porn...lol.

looks like the tlr takes up about 3 picatinny slots vs. the x300 which looks like it takes up 5. thanks chile.

Well, what I meant by 5 is, when mounted all the way forward on your rail, the front of the light hangs off some. From the on/off switch to the end of the rail, it takes about 5 slots. If you wanted to know how much the U/P latch mount alone takes up, it's about 3 as well, but since the on/off switch hangs off the back of the light, you're not going to fit anything onto the 2 picatinny slots that it covers. So, it makes since to include the extra 2. For example, in Chile's picture above, notice how there are 7 or 8 rail slots, but his light only attaches using about 3. Same thing with the Surefire. They also look to be about the same size.
