They're there... I spent 20 minutes drooling and wondering what I might sell to get one.

Aim Surplus?  Handguns?  I did and nothing came up for High Powers.

HB,

YOU'VE GOT TO CLICK ON THE ACTUAL WORD "HANDGUNS".

IF YOU JUST PUT YOUR CURSOR ON THE WORD, THE JUMP-OUT MENU DOESN'T SHOW THEM.

I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY'RE NOT IN THE JUMP-OUT MENU, BUT THEY'RE NOT, PROBABLY AN OVERSIGHT BY ONE OF THEIR COMPUTER GEEKS.

GOT IT.  Clicked on hand guns.  Did not brush over it.  Do we have any choice in ambo safeties since I am a South Paw?

HB,

LOOKS LIKE THE $479.95 GUNS DO.

THE OTHER TWO SPECIFY "MAY HAVE", BUT THE $479.95 DOESN'T SAY THAT, PLUS ALL THE PICS OF THOSE IN THAT CATAGORY SHOW AMBI-SAFETIES.

What's the big deal with Browning Hi-Powers? I know they're legendary, but why exactly? I've never shot or even held one.(obviously) Is it because they're considered collector's items due to being rare? They're SAO pistols, right?

I'm a southpaw as well. An ambi safety would be nice.

I love my hi-power. Unfortunately, it's so darn beautiful that I rarely shoot it. It's like a fine brandy you only break out for special occassions.

My feelings precisely.  Below is my 'hand select' grade MKIII purchased from AIM Surplus about a year ago, which I sent off to be reblued and NOVAK sights installed (and some other things done to her):

Whoever did the work knows his stuff. That blueing looks awesome.

Again, THANK YOU!  Fogle's Gunsmithing out of Ohio, did the rebluing.  I opted for their highest grade 'mirror finish'.  I haven't been successful with capturing a truly representative photograph of the pistol's new finish.  The below photo is the closest that I've come to so far:

Wow, NICE!

What kind of hammer is that you swapped the factory spur one out with?

It's a commander-style hammer manufactured by Elite Warrior Armament (I also purchased one of their sears for this pistol).  Were I to do the pistol all over again, I'd likely purchase the 'Browning HP Tool Steel Undercut Hammer, Sear, and Trigger' kit available from Jim Garthwaite... keeping all three parts from one high-quality aftermarket manufacturer (besides, I like the shape of the Garthwaite Browning HP 'undercut hammer' a little more than the Elite Warrior Armament product; mostly for aesthetic reasons).  Anyway, I replaced the OEM trigger with a Garthwaite 'Browning Competition Trigger' which doesn't use BHP's internal magazine disconnector.  I replaced the pistol's ambi safety/fire selector levers with a Garthwaite selector lever as well.

Gary, your taste in upgrades and improvements to your collection is remarkable. I'm always impressed with your posts of your weapons.

You're too kind; thank you for the kind words.  FWIW, why I performed so many parts upgrades to my Israeli Police surplus FN MK III pistol from AIM Surplus was because I felt I was getting an excellent conditioned pistol (excluding the exterior bluing wear) at almost half the price of a new Browning HP pistol.  The barrel on the pistol itself, looked like it had never been fired (but of course that couldn't be true).  Obtaining the BHP at that cost savings..... I figured "why not?" regarding the parts upgrades.

Such is how my whack-a-doodle brain sometimes works, when it comes to justifying my expenditures.  021.gif

Not rare at all. The were essentially the first wonder nine and were the most popular military and police pistol around the world for a long time. - as long as you count clones. That might be CZ75 & clones now though. They have good ergos, usually a decent trigger and hold about 15 rounds. In today's world they are not unique, but they are a decent nice shooting example that is a classic of the type. They are popular enough that you can find one with about any feature or absence of feature you want made somewhere. Also all of the accessories you could want. Most of them are made to shoot ball ammo, so you need to find out if a particular version will run HPs without a bunch of tuning.

My plans are to shoot the shit out of the Arcus.  Completely the opposite of what I've done with my Browning.  I hope that the BHP parts are interchangeable.  I've read that they are in some places, and others say that they are not.  To me, everything looks the same. For the price, I can't complain.  I will complain about the shitty condition the previous owner left it in.  FILTHY!!!! Took me about two hours to clean.  There was so much grime in the trigger action that it resembled tar.  The barrel looked black when I got it.  Not anymore big_smile.gif .

BHP's aren't rare by any means. There are some versions that are rare. But they are probably the most common pistol in use in the last century of firearms.

Hold one sometime and you'll feel what makes them so popular. A BHP the most pointable, comfortable and natural feeling pistol that is out there. IMO of course.
