My wife's family are living this fucking nightmare. Smack in the middle of it.

My little niece and nephew have gone ten days on two pounds of rice their parents managed to get on the black market. We send them money and dollars are like gold over there but there simply are no products to be had.

Supermarkets are state run and completely empty, no electricity, no running water, no propane to cook with. My sister in law found some old wooden furniture to burn so she could cook the rice.

The populace keeps trying to have an uprising but without weapons other than sticks, rocks and bottles to throw they're pretty fucked. That article in the OP talks about the police sent out to protect the people, BULLSHIT. The government is trying to shut down the opposition of a starving population.

These people have no hope and nothing left to lose, this ain't gonna end well.

What's sad is that it will take a social uprising where the unarmed are slaughtered to get international intervention. It is just a matter of when a large group decides their lives are worthless and they prefer to die on their feet than starve in their shanties. What is even worse is the media has completely ignored this travesty so as not to show the weakness of socialism during an election year full of socialists.

I hope that people in this country are paying very close attention to this. This IS America's future if we continue down the road we are on. Did you ever think a self identifying avowed Socialist would even have a shot at a presidential nomination? Or a Supreme court that with one additional appointment would interpret the 2nd Amendment out of existence? Here we stand in 2016 with both possible realities. Look how much has changed in only seven years. Imagine another 10 years if the current direction is not corrected. Let it be a lesson for us that the day we give up our firearms, is the day we resign ourselves to hunger, poverty, and bondage to our own government.

The real issue I have with the SCOTUS is that a court makes a ruling based on the constitution and then a few years later the same court, SCOTUS, has new members and a totally different interpretation of the same thing. Never was that court meant to be politically charged or biased, but as you say," here we are". The SCOTUS is charged with interpreting the constitution as it was written and apply it to modern law, not completely change a meaning to fit a political agenda and ignore the need for a convention to do away with a right.

Either the court needs to be done away with or a major reform needs to happen taking it back to what it was originally intended to be in order to save our country. Politicians will always be dirty pieces of crap and the court was supposed to be the blind beacon of hope for all mankind, but instead it has turned into a travesty that lacks the very basic fundamentals upon which it was devised.

Excellent statement, and 100% accurate.

Bread and circuses will be our path to ruin.

Vice and other newsgroups always are surprised when an unsustainable system collapses.. They are not old or wise enough to see the pattern.    At the end of the day, they forget that things are made

Weren't several celebrities and folks on the left pointing to Venezuela as the shining example of how socialism works just a couple of years ago? Where are all those idiots today? Somebody needs to as

The constitution is Scalia said" a dead document.it says what it says, not what you want it to. "

Problem is the writers of newspeak change the definitions to whatever they want

They say it is a living and breathing document that changes with the times. Then out of the other side of their mouths say it only covers muskets because that was the technology of the day.

When morons run things and we accept their work as law we are truly screwed, and that day is today gentlemen.

Root causes and excuses for all this mess?  Dunno about Venezuela.  Here in the USA perhaps it is because elected politicians have found such power to be very addictive.  And profitable gaining great wealth.  Then they pass laws that lets just about anybody vote.  All those voters will vote for their own self interest.  A chicken in every pot.  But ... who pays for the chickens?

Too many non deserving voters.  Too many bad politicians.  A large USA voting majority with their political heads up their own asses.  Or their heads stuck in the sand.  Runaway government on all levels.  A corrupt and controlled expensive public education system.  A bloated entitlement system.  Failed citizen duties and expectations.  Nobody gives a shit. An endless list.

Solutions?  Difficult but doable.  Think outside the two party one power block political system controlling the USA.  Find, select and run true Patriots and Statesman for ALL offices.  Try to find some sort of non controlled conservative media.  Perhaps establish that one billion dollar citizen funded presidential election fund?  But ... first ya got to get elected.  Difficult.

Oil based economy. You run out of oil revenue, you run out of other peoples money. Economy goes "plop". Norway, England, Saudis, and others need to pay attention.

To elaborate, an energy source is absolutely necessary to fuel production/productivity. However, when one's economy is primarily based upon a single commodity, the 'good times' last only so long as the commodity maintains enough strength to support minimum cash flow requirements.

No mattter how long or how violently the Venezuelan communists protest, as long as oil remains at it's current levels, they'll starve.

Sooner or later, they'll have to return to a production and market based economy, or someone else will do it for them.

Didn't LBJ say something to the effect that if he can provide welfare to enough idiots and they vote liberal then he will have them in his hand forever?  Something kinda like that?  Dunno.  He did not add that eventually doing so would fuck the nation.  He did not care?  He was quite the asshole. Respectfully.  :)

Doesn't really matter if he said it or not. The effects of his policies have been long reaching and decidedly destructive to the black community. Previous to 1963 Black and white families had nearly the same rate of single family house holds.. now today 13% of the population is holds 67% of the single parent families in the US..the trend began to spike quickly after LBJ's term completed in 69'.

Perhaps this is just correlation and not causation, it's well worth noting that along with this policy that 5% of that 13% (males between age 8 & 24) are responsible for over 50% of the nations murders, the rest of the 13% comprise over 50% of the total murder victims of the USA.  Socialism isn't just bad for the economy.. it's bad for your health in general.

I have read many of this gentleman's books. Once a devoted communist, until education and enlightenment got in the way. I recommend any and all of his works. Blacks should wake the fuk up as they are only slitting their own throats and the future of this country.

I believe this quote has the answer to the whole problem, and many others as well.

"The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem."

It really irks me when I hear the idiot 20-something "reporters" blaming this, primarily, on the low price of oil.

I'll bet they still smell of baby lotion and sour spilt powdered milk!

Chavez got this ball rolling. He raped their Billion dollar "Rainy Day" Fund, in exchange for promises and then he confiscated private property.

I hate seeing people suffer.

Long Shot- Can they still forage for basic foods?

Not much in the way of foraging.

Just a few months ago you could walk any direction a hundred feet and find mangos, papayas and citrus just hanging in random trees.

Now the fruit doesn't even mature before the trees a stripped clean. Pigeons, iguanas, household pets are almost non existent in the cities.

Agriculture was destroyed by Chaves' price controls and removal of private property rights in the name of redistribution of wealth.

I worked in Venezuela for several months in 2012 when oil was booming. Socialism was failing then too. I was caught in a "protest" where these locals blocked the highways in both directions and only allowed local foot traffic for 12 hours..  you could walk through but had to pay.. and of course leave your car. They didn't move until a cop brought them a bag of money. Apparently this was how they got their welfare for the area.

When we were on the job site they would constantly "loose" equipment. When I asked one of the general labors about it he said  that they didn't want to finish the project because they had to go home when it was done..

Isn't socialism wonderful? NOT!

Everywhere socialism was implemented it resulted in disaster and death. The USSR under Stalin starved millions and murdered countless others. Hitler murdered millions and it took the Allied forces years to defeat. Mao murdered 70 million of his own countrymen.

Allende in Chile until his being deposed fucked up that country. Most Latin American countries are either socialist or military dictatorships. Venezuela is going down the toilet from socialism and now they are working to impose this on us.

I remember one libturd dingbat that my parents knew gloated about Mexico after they returned from there saying "they have socialism" and I think she had a bigger orgasm from saying it that her husband ever gave her. I told another idiot who said the same thing that Hitler was also a socialist, I shit on her parade and her ecstasy disappeared in an instant. She didn't want to hear that.

Well in the commies defense Russia has been killing off it's peasants for a very long time.

Imagine if you will most were better off under the commies than the Tsar, off and on.

Just dont fall into a targeted class of either...

China is much the same, sometimes it is really just a crappy country after all.

So maybe more of a symptom than the disease itself, though academic in the mass grave.

It was more a continued tradition there than a new idea, they just industrialized the process...

Imagine that they hadn't given up their guns.

Maduro would be more likely to comply with the needs of his people.

I can see this dragging out for years, as long as he can feed the army and police.

I fear cannabilism may be next, in this Socialist Utopia.

He just recently confiscated a few American oil rigs (at gunpoint) as well. Non-news in the American Alphabet Media either.

Not a peep.

There was a time that you didn't mess with Americans and their property, without repercussion.

The project I was on was after Chavez took the property from ConocoPhillips. He ceased crew boats, barges, equipment of all kinds too. Obummer did jack shit about it.

His replacement is even worse.
