VladTepes 160
I had a company permanently attach a brake to my S12.. and they did a fine job.. but I am finally thinking about filing for a stamp and taking the brake off.. this would leave my barrel at 14.5in.. but I have a small issue.. The shop that did my brake changed the procedure from pin to silver solder at about the same time I sent them my gun (and this was a few years ago).. so they have no way to know which process was used for my gun.. assuming it is pin.. I know how to deal with it.. as I have gotten them out on a few occasions... patience... and slow cutting... assuming it is silver solder... I know less.. the shop was good enough to give some advice.. heat sink paste.. get the brake alone real hot.. and it should just come off.. looking for any input on whatever it is I am missing.. thanks.. Heartbreaker 1,085
Cut the barrel just behind the brake.
poolingmyignorance 2,191
Wire brush the coating off, should reveal the pins location if there is one. Or paint stripper if it's a less durable coating. Edited May 31, 2016 by poolingmyignorance
Lone Star Arms 2,047
Tax stamp first! If it was properly high temp silver soldered you'll probably need to mill it off. If it comes right off with some flux and heat, it wasn't properly installed to begin with. Good luck! Mike
VladTepes 160
Cut the barrel just behind the brake. that is certainly an option but I am trying to preserve the threading.. Good luck! Mike I know an AR is not a S12.. but I have seen people remove silver soldered AR brakes with heat and patience.. and most certainly stamp first..
pedal2alloy 206
If it is threaded on and then soldered, the threads will be full of solder. If you have to chase the threads with a die anyway, I'd just cut it and re-thread it
