hyrax222 1
I have a Tromix built Saiga 12 w/12"barrel. I want a last round hold open device. I see one at Carolina Shooters Supply. Is this A goood way to go? Or should I Use a safety lever with gold open like the Krebs?
gunfun 3,931
If you mean this one, it is a manual bolt hold open, just like you already have: http://www.carolinashooterssupply.com/Saiga_12_BHO_Bolt_Hold_Open_Lever_Conversion_p/css-modified-bho.htm It is not an automatic last round bolt hold open. Cadiz gun works used to sell one, but I think it is off the market due to frequent difficulty with getting it to work right.
hyrax222 1
Well damn Mikhail all to hell for not engineering in an automatic bolt hold open feature! What was he (not) thinking? Was he jacked on meds as he lay in the hospital bed? Fever dreams of being the russian John Moses Browning? I am NOT happy!
gunfun 3,931
He borrowed things from JMB. The AK safety is from the Remington Model 8, which is a JMB design. However, plenty of revisions of the AK that could be called official have LRBHOs. If you are interested in them, google search "saiga 12 LRBHO" you will find a lot of developed threads here, along with a fair supply of frustration and ranting. If it is a really big deal to you, the Vepr 12 or saiga IZ-433s have factory magwells and LRBHOs. It sucks since you already have a stamp on your tromix. However buying one of those is a lot cheaper than a tromix conversion, let alone a tromix shorty.
armalite_ar50 86
Remember too. I've been looking at front forearms for my SBS S12 and was checking over the tromix site yesterday. If you have his trigger gaurd or some such tromix only part the LRBHO you are looking at won't even work. ( you'll have to read over his site) You need to stick to the factory manual one. Or get a non tromix replacement guard and do the trial and error that Gun Fun says. I have two pre 89 AK's and am greatful to have the manual one that comes with the S12, it's better then what the norinco and poly tec AK's I have have. And that's NOTHING LOL. Rich PS: so far I'm either using my original forearm or geting a AMD 65 one. not real sure yet. Edited July 25, 2016 by armalite_ar50
armalite_ar50 86
Found it for you. http://www.tromix.com/saiga-parts.html SGP75 Do-It-Yourself Trigger Guard Kit $45 This bolt-on kit allows you to relocate your trigger guard forward on your S-12 and also provides a threaded boss to mount your SAW pistol grip. includes integrated safety stop as well. (Not compatible with S-12’s equipped with automatic last round bolt hold open devices) If that's the trigger guard you have your idea is a no go. I'm not sure but I think this is his standard TG build accept he tigs it on. And it may just be the bolt that is in the way. Email tromix and ask. Rich
gunfun 3,931
If the manual krebs lever will work for you, the manual BHO would too. Just don't expect it to happen automatically. Alt option is just to cut a notch into your existing lever. I actually prever a shelf on the lever like Krebs, but an enclosed receiver, and use the manual BHO.
