Okaraider 1
Ok so I want to drift the rear sight on my S12. I tried a punch and hammer but it will not move? Im not wailing on it but I would have thought it would budge. I already soaked it in oil. Am I missing something?
David Mark 2,452
I cut mine out when I installed the Krebs sights. Make a horizontal cut across the sight till you are almost all the way through. This will relieve the tension and allow you to punch it right out.
Heartbreaker 1,085
If you just need a little change in windage, use a Dremel to slightly widen the slot on the side you want to shift POA towards.
evlblkwpnz 3,418
Lay the weapon on its side with the side of the gas tube well supported (very important) on something that will not give. Drive the sight with a large diameter shaft punch and a ball peen hammer. It will move if you do it correctly. If it is not on something solid and the gas tube is not supported, it will likely not work and you may even break one of the lugs off of the gas tube where it interfaces with the trunnion. This kind of thing is best done on a very sturdy and heavy bench, etc.
Okaraider 1
Uy broken gas tube lugs sounds like a nightmare!! Everything seems tight and in tact so I don't think ill try the punch again. I might try the dremel and if that does not work maybe ill move towards a new sight. Dave M which sight did you replace it with?
evlblkwpnz 3,418
I have done it many times without Dremel (now there's a potential nightmare) or cutting. Gas tube needs to be well supported and knock the fog out of the sight. Broken lug means welding to repair it, not all that big a deal. It is only metal.
ChileRelleno 7,071
Evlblkwpnz is correct. The key to moving that lil'SOB is as previously stated, Support on a Solid Surface. If there is any 'Give', the transfer of energy needed to move the sight is lost. Then get a good brass punch, a hammer and smack it like a redheaded step child. Once it moves, it'll move easier. If you replace your sights yourself, I highly recommend Kreb's Custom Combat Sights. http://www.krebscustom.com/products/48/Krebs-Custom-SAIGA12-Combat-Shotgun-Sights
David Mark 2,452
Dave M which sight did you replace it with? The exact same one Chile posted the link for.
