Sim_Player 1,939
It's an American WW2 Fighting Knife. It was found mixed in with the power tools, 3 years ago. It looked like a beater but, I couldn't pass it up for $6. The pommel was loose so I slipped fishing line in between the leather discs and tied it. I also oiled the crap out of the handle leather washers and the sheath. The sheath snap was broken so I salvaged a replacement and epoxied it into place. The blade was de-rusted, sanded, and resharpened. Without oiling, the blade kept rusting, so tonight I wiped it down with cold-bluing. Why does the website rotate pictures???? Haha! My big hands make the knife look small but, it's not! Edited September 12, 2016 by Sim_Player

Sim_Player 1,939
It is crazy how much they are selling for on Ebay. The upper guard had been bent back towards the handle. I saw a few knives online that were the same way. I wonder why? Edited September 13, 2016 by Sim_Player
gunfun 3,930
Flat? -- If so, it would make it more comfortable to rest your thumb along the spine. or tweaked a little? My guess is that there was some routine task like prying food cans or using it as a disassembly tool which deformed those.
Sim_Player 1,939
I wondered if the pointy tip might have interfered with another piece of equipment on the web-belt. It was belt back at about 45 deg. Edited September 13, 2016 by Sim_Player
El Cabron 91
That is a great knife. My granddad gave me one when I was a little kid (long ago; don't ask how long), and I've still got it. It takes a sharp edge, and holds it.

I'm not worried about it's historical value. I just oil-soaked the leather really well. Keep adding oil (I used general purpose oil), until it stops soaking in, then wipe it down with a clean rag. Well-treated leather can last hundreds of years. Leather ammo pouches, from WW2, are still being dug up and the leather is in great shape. Nailbomb 10,221
Looks very similar to my Cattaraugus. I don't want to have to dig it out right now, so here is a pic of one that is in similar condition to mine.
