Tony Baggadonuts 1
Just picked up a new Vepr 12. Used the factory 5 Round mag, and some slugs that were 7/8 of an oz at 1300 ft per second. I shot 20 rounds and got a stove pipe on every single round. I know these rounds are under an oz, but does that really explain a 20 for 20 of Stovepipes? Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!
Mullet Man 2,114
You're down at the bottom of power spectrum with those numbers. Did you try any heavier and faster 1oz slugs, to see if it does the same thing? Something in the 1500-1600fps range in a 1oz weight. Over time and use after it's broken in and loosened up some, it might run those lighter loads but don't keep spending money on them in the mean time. Tony Baggadonuts 1
The indoor range I went to only let me use their ammo, and the low power crap was all they had (closest range between work and home). I am going to a different range this weekend and will bring full power buck and slugs. My hope was that it would cycle low brass bird shot in the future after it breaks in. Sdustin 578
My vepr12 had no issues with federal bulk Bird shot. Winchester was shit though. And I did shoot about 200 rounds of high power buck and slugs first.
VforVandetta 42
Please read this thread before you take your gun out again. It will save you much time and money: http://www.vepr.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5390 It is full of helpful info, like how to do a proper ammo test, and will tell you some common pitfalls and myths to avoid. I've heard that story a few times, local range will only allow low power ammo, which robs the new Vepr 12 owner of time and money and a true diagnostic of what their gun can do. I say to hell with those stupid ranges and their greedy owners that wont let you bring outside ammo or place restrictions of my shotgun ammo power. It would have been worth your time to drive to a range without those bullshit restricions. Hope your gun functions better with other types of ammo. Keep us posted of the results! -V
Tony Baggadonuts 1
I took the Vepr 12 out to the range again yesterday. Prior to going, I racked the action about 200 times and oiled the bolt. Put about 200 rounds through it yesterday without a single hickup. Very happy with how it ran. compshootfl 40
Check the shell length...some slug ammo is longer. Edited November 23, 2016 by compshootfl
